FS: Late Roman / Viking / Spangen Helm - SCA
Hullo. In my move to a later period, I am selling my helm. It was originally made from 12 and 14ga by Lord Kiernan of Shamrock Armoury, to match my kit. The spangens, sides, and back are all blued, and the nasal is copper. The hinges are, of course, false and decorative. I fought in it as is three times, until I took a wicked short stick to the face and it smooshed my nose. Took the helm to Sir Mrks (of An Tir), and he elongated the helm so it didn't sit so flat on the head and added some grill work. She's built for a small head but is still a heavy girl. Inside circumference at the brow is 26.5", and my 22" head fits nicely in there.

Hey Kiernan,
Sir Mrks added bars to each side, another one down at the bottom, and hammered them all out a little bit to give them some curve. I guess he also put the whole helm in a press and smooshed it so that it was less perfectly circular, then some fine tuning hammering. Pretty bad ass, really. Although I had to beg him to keep the nasal on.

Dropping this down to $300 + shipping. It's a really nice helm, solid, I've taken severe shots from severe guys and it just thumps a little, no ringing, no dents. Well made. If she doesn't sell for this price I'm going to keep her and figure another way to get a new helm for my 12th c. persona.
Thanks!
Thanks!
