A request for inspiration

Post by LWCM »

I am going to be getting some riveted supplies soon. I bought a pound of 3/8 ready to rivet rings from Forth Armoury this morning and I wish that I had the cash to get some more. I have a supply of 3/8 solid rings in my material ‘stash’. So I am trying to decide what to make when the rings get here. I don’t have a helm yet, otherwise I’d scrounge up some more $ and buy two pounds so I can make an aventail for it. I would also make a standard with the rings, two if I went alternating solid/riveted. Anyone else have some ideas for things that I could make?

Hauberk?
Westerners, we have forgotten our origins. We speak all the diverse languages of the country in turn. Indeed the man who was poor at home attains opulence here; he who had no more than a few deiners, finds himself master of a fourtune.

Thanks for the idea but I don't think that a pound of rings will make an adult sized hauberk :)

That is one tight materials limit -- even a camail needs three or four pounds, a bishop's mantle more yet, and a coif would be about like a camail.

For sure you could make up some patches for the crook of each elbow, pointing them or basting stitching them to the sleeves of your arming-cote.

I think two pounds would make up about ONE underarm voider -- and pairs of things are best built first a row on one, then a row on the other, so they are symmetrical. That is, on the first go-round, you make the same errors on each side.  Long-term voider project, pending more supplies...?

Start a shirt or an aventail finish as you buy links

You could make a mantle.

I like that mail that has plates woven into it. Sort of Eastern style.
To me that is very logical.

But then again their is always this:
NSFW....

Hal, you are evil. Funny, but evil. Mostly because I didn't have caffiene yet when I got to work so I missed the NSFW tag :). Oops.

I'm 85% decided on starting an aventail for my not-yet-existant helmet. If he runs out of in stock rings when I run out of material maybe I can sell it off as a helm drape.

Thanks for all the suggestions Konstantin!
