Hello folks,
I'm making an aventail for a bascinet that is being made for me. I have the dimensions for the bascinet and I've made the lower circular portion so far. Now I need to figure out how the triangular risers on the sides of the face and the face portion itself should be designed. The helm has a side pivot visor.
Can anyone give me any guidance on how to construct the risers? Also, how should the mail be handled across the face opening behind the visor? I've been searching the web for pics of a helm with the visor up but have only found visor down pics. Also, Should I plan on having some sort of cloth backing behind the mail that crosses my face or will it not touch my face anyway? Also this is for SCA combat, so I'm concerned about the neck protection that the aventail will provide in front.
Thanks!

It's been too long since I've made an aventail to give good construction advice. All I have to say is wear a gorget underneath. You can't be too careful with your throat.
