Carolingian helmets....

Post by Glaukos the Athenian »

I was just re-reading Oakeshott's "Archaeology" ( my usual privy enlightment) for the N hundredth time and I realized that I am yet to see anyone wearing, making or offering a Carolingian helmet. I think it was described in medieval latin as "Cristea Galea Ferrata"

I am just curious whether the demand splits squarely between the crusader period and the later 14th century (with a sprinkling of 15th century) or armor of other periods is also in demand

I have seen one refrence but no offerings and most assuredly nobody with a Carolingian persona...

Lastly,
I just thought she looked hot in this photo so I decided to add her. Not close to the usual fictional depiction of Guinevere, still, She can come practice archery with me any day....

The one a couple helmets up from it was pretty awesome as well.

A better source of info, btw, is the Stuttgart Psalter, supposedly dated to 925 AD.
