Review: Chivalry Bookshelf bascinet hinges

I just received the cast steel bascinet hinges from Chivalry Bookshelf.

I had sent several emails to Brian, and received speedy replies in turn.

I sent a check out, and waited. When no hinges had arrived, I emailed Brian. No immediate response as he was out of town. When I got a hold of him on the phone, he said that he had not received any check from me, but would ship the hinges right away on my word that I would send a new check.

That was Saturday. Today I received them. The price was about $30 each with shipping.

They are made in two pieces of cast steel, but need clean up and assembly. (That's OK with me, as I know how much that would add to the cost!) There are no rivets or attaching hardware for the bascinet itself: these will have to be made by the individual armorer. The hinges are made to fit over a stud and a locking T-peg.

They will need a couple of hours of TLC, but I've seen these in use and they are beautiful!

Final say: They are a great start for a piece of hardware that takes a lot of abuse! I will definitely buy more as they become available. Well worth the price, and Brian certainly helped work through a problem in the mail.
