I want to be an Ottoman Cavalryman from the early 16th Century.

Kilij, mail-and-plate coat, ridiculously ornate firearms and all...

Hee hee hee... just realized this is my "first" post.

Rick Orli (who posts here occasionally, and may hopefully put his two cents in) put together this fine website devoted primarily to Polish Hussaria and their supports, but he has a great addition in the information he's added on the Ottoman Turks. Here's the page for Turkish Cavalry:

http://www.kismeta.com/diGrasse/Ottonan_Cavalry.htm

Explore the rest of the site, it's got a lot of great information in it!

Cheers!

Actually my bad, I did a search and missed it myself...although some good information has already popped up.

But, at least you narrowed it down to Cavalry! Cus' if you said, Navy, you would be walking around with an interesting Party Hat!

Well, as Ottoman cavalry, you might have had a horn bow instead of a gun. Bows are easier to reload.

You'd also have a kalkan http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=54398

Sorry about the terrible picture, but it's from a book and I have no scanner, so I had to take it with the built-in camera on my mac..

Anyway here is a pretty interesting find

And this is the sort of chichak/helmet I'm looking for.

Liam;

For kit, you might check into Hussar Supply, which deals in lots of cool stuff for an Central/Eastern European impression. He has swords, bows, armour and accoutrements that from my unpracticed eye look pretty good. He even has a couple of chichak/szyszak/zischagge that appear very much like the photo you posted.

Those greaves and sabatons are VERY interesting! Besides, you don't get to see the bottoms of such things very often, either!

Cheers!

Check out my photos from Istanbul. I took a fair number of photos of 15th and 16th century Ottoman armour.

Thank you for your input, those photos were very class. I liked the arm guards especially, the likes of which I have never seen before.

The Book is "Warrior" by R.G. Grant, published by DK. http://www.amazon.com/Warrior-Visual-Hi ... 075663203X

I would also recommend "Battle" as an excellent history book. They should both be on the Archive's Recommended Reading List (if such a thing indeed exists.)
