BEWARE THE PLAQUE ATTACK !!!

Post by Andrew Young »

Well, I had a bunch of white harness projects that needed plaque belts and between time and budget I was unable to go with some of the other plaque belts current available (some of which are very nice).

So what does Ms Necessity do when she cant get her way....

I really got into this project and have earmarked about 30 different types of plaque belts.....this is the first wave of sculpts. They will be cleaned up a bit before casting. Many more to come.....

I did all these in a total of 2 hours time...I worked on them during shop breaks. I sculpt pretty fast...so Im open to ideas...email me and we'll talk.

Cheers

Oh very nice. I'd like to see a few plaques once cast. Looks pretty good. Especially like the top middle one.

So these are... milled/tooled steel masters, from which you will make molds to cast bronze or pewter?

All of the above. I sculpt the prototypes out, mold them up, cast them...clean em up more....remold them. Send them to NASA for precision engineering and then to a professional sandblasting service for historical weathering. :P

Bronzy-brass I suppose. Pewter might be cool for some parts. Will figure that out as I go along.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Thanks guys!

Yes Karl they will be for sale, but first thing first, I gotta sculpt em all first!

Im concentrating mostly on 14th and 15th century militaria at the moment...and then I plan on working out.

I plan on doing a range of armour buckles too...in fact Im in the midst of sculpting 5 versions right now too.

Roman stuff.....yeah at some point more.

More pics coming later this week.......

If you're thinking of going into buckles, the market needs more munitions-grade steel armor buckles- not cast, of course, but shaped from bar stock. The only domestic supplier I can think of is Patrick Thaden and his are pretty spendy. I think Steel Mastery carry them, but they never answered my queries about pricing and sizes.

Anyhoo, make some 1/2" steel buckles and you've got one buyer here. :)

oh trust me I hear ya....

I think cast is okay if they are strong enough....but Im also machining out some that will have a "softer" look so as to look cast. In fact I just got off the phone with my machinist. More to come....
