Review: Ld Ragnar MacHardy Proprietor of Leather

Post by Halberds »

Two thumbs up!

He was very helpful on selection and my thickness needs.

• Shipped as soon as the check cleared.

• Prime quality with no brands or range marks.

• Consistent thickness and surface finish.

It is clean and supple.
I am a happy camper with my half hide.

I would recommend Ld Ragnar MacHardy for your leather needs.

I am going to be changing the name or I should say, start using a real name lol. I am calling my business Darknight Leathers, figure everyone can remember that and I am going to start building a web site after the advise I was given by my banker.

Almost forgot, thank you for the review Hal and it was nice doing business with you.

I seem to remember you mentioning earlier what you carried, but forgot it. What do you carry with regards to weight, size, type of leather, etc.?

Ragnar,

Can you get thicker leather? Like 12-15 oz? I am looking for something to back a couple of pieces of 18 lorica so to give it a bit more rigidity.

The 11oz might be enough.

Thanks!

Unfortunately 11 oz is the thickest I can get. To get thicker I have to go to a different distributor and that jumps the price up to much for my liking. Possibly in the future I will locate a source for the thicker stuff at a reasonable price.

Where you are using I take it 18 gauge Lorica on top of leather 11 oz would probably be the max I would go. My lamallar has leather that is no more than 8oz max. I had to adjust the price list as there were some changes, nothing major.

I was thinking about a helm liner, would work.
Not for SCA. For my Viking costume perhaps a cloak.

Not to steal Ragnar's thunder, but I got a mini-sheepskin from IKEA. The small ones are $20 and the larger are $35

Edited to add pricing after Ragnar gave OK.

That is probably the best deal as i am not able to locate sheepskin with the wool still on it, my household member shears the wool off for her projects.

Hey Ragnar, any chance of posting some "example" pictures? At least for the stuff like the buffalo and such?

I will try to work on that this week. I am limited to where I can go right now as I think I blew the waterpump which I won't have the money to fix till the beginning of the month unless I get some decent sales. I do have pics of the stingray hide if anyone wants to look at those. The link is: http://picasaweb.google.com/darknight13 ... 15Stingray

Ragnar,

I am trying my luck with a scabbard. (Aaron S. I owe you a PM) and I am fancying covering it with hair-on cowhide.

Would you have around a piece, let's say 36x12 of brown and white hair on cow leather?

Thanks!!

Yeah, I do not have any with the hair on it. Have you tried Brutten leather in Main? I think he has some with the hair on but not sure as far as what size he has.
