Army Chin-strap Snap Replacement

Does anyone know of a good way to replace the snap on an army chinstrap without just installing a new chinstrap? The current riveted location is now under leather which has been glued down, and I don't want to pull it up if at all possible.

Not sure what you asking but they make snaps in chicago screw and rivet frmat. remove the old snap and either screw on or attach new rivet. walmart sells the rivet format. tsc sell the chigo scre ype, hooe this helps?

The problem I am having is that the one of the parts of the snap tends to get bent over time (the short end, not attached to the chin-cup). Comes from taking it on and off a lot. The biggest issue I have had is finding snaps that can take the pressure that is generated. This is the only thing holding the chinstrap together, and most of what I have seen at Wal-Mart, Tandy, etc. won't take that kind of lateral pressure before coming loose (the snap is pulled sideways).

Anyone else use the army style chinstrap and tried to replace the snaps?

I removed the snaps (I don't know if this will help at all because I did it before I installed the chinstrap) completly and sewed the strap to leather (5oz). I am not sure which kind of army chinstrap you are using (mine is the old split style that you chin pokes through) so I just use the tabs to tighten and loosen when I put on and take off my helm.

I have sceen a lot of chinstrap variants but have trubble picturing witch varity your talking about.

There are snap kits out there that work very similar to a two piece rivet. There are probably some specific tools that you would need and that may end up costing a bit. Also there may end up not being enough material left to get a good grip on after you remove the old snap.

There isn't enough slack for me to get my head through with leaving it snapped on. I am hoping I can use the existing hole once I remove the snap, as the nylon isn't damaged at all. So does anyone know of any heavy-duty snaps they would trust their head to?

Losthelm, it rivets to one side, has a pull tab, then chin-cup, another pull tab followed by a snap, and then the other strap has a snap and rivet.
