Dagesse sword?

Where does the term come from?
It seems to refer to arming or riding sword of Italian descent in 14th century, but my googlefu brings up only modern retailers.

Next place to look is the Oxford English Dictionary, then. Formidable research tool, that. While the OED is online, you have to subscribe.

Wonder if they've gotten round to a CD-ROM yet?
