So, I guess I am the only one who didn't stay over.

106 Fighters 6 fields 18 rounds destructive byes.

Headlining the fields (from memory, I might get some of this wrong)

Argent Field: Duke John of Skye, HRM Mari Alexander
Vert Field:HRM Eduard of Atenveld, Haouc Duke Bender
Azure Field: Duke Mathias Herzog, Duke Paul of Bellatrix (also Prince Eyvindr and myself)
Gules? Field: Duke Conor Weisszhan, Jarl Valgard Stonecleaver
Sable Field: HRM Gemini, Graf Hans von Wolfholtz
Or? Field: HRM Edric of Caid, Duke Fabian Arnet von Schwetzingen

The Finalists:

Duke John of Skye
Hauoc Duke Bender
Duke Mathias Herzog
Duke Conor Weisszhan
HRM Gemini
Duke Fabian von Schwetzingen.

I was wranging my son for most of the finals so someone else will have to supply you with the details of all 15 fights as the sun set over the hills...

but Duke Mathias Herzog was the VICTOR with 4 victories. Huzzah! There were at least 3 double-kills.

I would like to personally acknowledge the prowess of Marc de Arundel fighting in the Azure list had only 2 losses - both double kills - to Duke Mathias and Duke Paul. With a bastard sword.

We'll have some videos up on YouTube in a day or two. They will then probably trickle out for a while. Lots of fights to edit and upload.

I had several really good fights.

I don't think Duke Paul was quite in the top 12, I believe he finished his day with three losses, which put him in a tie for 3rd on his field, so he was still top 18 out of 106!
I will say that he was moving extremely well, we had a double kill with greatswords which was possibly the most fun fight of my whole day! He actually scared the crap out of me, he jumped me so fast, far faster than I had ever seen him move.
This was his 2nd time back in armour after a long lay off due to his injuries, and the way he looked on Saturday is a testament to his knowledge, experience and strength of will.
As DA said, he still has the Bellatrix BOOM-YOW

Vitus -- not to take anything away from Duke Paul, who truly is incredible, but the list of "headed the field" that Sigifrith posted is in order of precedence, not final score. (Paul may very well have made it into top 12 -- he was in top 4 last time, 3 years ago).

Unbelted standouts were Marc d'Arundel and Heinrich von Melk.

I just want to confirm that what D says is true... it just so happened that the finalists were all no 1 or no 2 "seeds" (although not strictly seeded).

One of the tough things about this style of tournament (huge Round robin) is that there are no semis or quarterfinals or late round surprises. Either you win your list, and are in the finals or not.

If we had another 2 hours of daylight (or started at 8!), I guess we would could have taken the top 2 or 3 from each list, and fought a semi-final round robin... maybe I will suggest something to Gemini for LPD III

I marshalled Sable field most of the day, (from about 6th to 16th round) which happened to be the field His Majesty Gemini was fighting on.

There were 4 lefties on that particular field.

1 King, 1 Crown Prince, Several Knights, and Many unbelts. I have photos of some of the fights on that field. I'll be happy to post them when I find the cable for my digital camera.

A couple of comments taken from the West kingdom email list.

"Flieg here -

I did a calculation of the number of formal bouts (Not counting the
pick-up fights -- some people just couldn't get enough...)

There were four fields of 17 and two of 18, 104 fighters in all.
Eight hundred and sixty five (865) bouts were fought with full formal
courtesies.
La Prova Dura, indeed.

For comparison, in a double elimination Crown Lists of 104
fighters, done normally, there would be somewhere between 206-209 plus however many "bye" fights and double-kills there are.

That was on Saturday -- There were another 36 bouts on Sunday in La
Prova di Amore.

The result was a tie between Sir Octamasadhes (An Tir) and Sir
Freewind (Caid), and both of their ladies were declared the victors
of the Prova di Amore."

Greeting Sir Ieuan! (I was the righty with the red chi-rho, Go Sable Field!)

I believe, from my conversations with HRM Gemini, that all the footage will be put on DVD. Until then, here are a few pics taken by my wife of my bout against Sir Dmitriy. You can also see pictures of the banner stand in the center of the field and the large number of people who ran out to save it when the wind almost blew it over.

Here is what I remember of Matthias' tournies in the West, in no particular order:

I'd venture that once his and Sir Bryne's girls are a bit older and they can think seriously about reigning in the West we will see just how well Duke Matthais closes.

I just want to say what an amazing time I had on Saturday. I wasn't around for the first Prova, so I didn't really know what to expect beyond the youtube video we've all seen.
Every single fight I had was awesome. I got to fight some of my heroes, and watch more of them fight throughout the day. I had some knock-down drag-outs with some good friends and some new ones. HRH Evandyr fought like a demon when we met in the list.
I got to meet a ton of cool people, like the Baron of the Far West and HRM Eduard of Atenveld. He is a scary man, he smoked me when I encountered him in the warm up melee.
What was also really cool was seeing newer fighters step up and fight above themselves. There was a gentle named George who made Prova his first tourney, and he handled himself very well.
The banners, the pavillions, the heralds, the support crews, the fighters all combined to make this the most fun I've ever had at a tournament. Every muscle in my body is sore, but I'm getting an adrenaline rush just sitting here thinking about the tournament.

Indeed. It was one of the toughest part. In my field, the Vert field, I only lost one fight to Huec Duke Bender. He went on to the finals. Though, he and I had a fantastically fun fight and I am not sad to have lost it.

La Prova Dura was indeed a good time. I will be back in 3 years.

Yeah, I mean I didn't mean to deny that he is an awesome fighter or anything. I mean he is like 6'3 or bigger, and hits like a tank with a 120mm smoothbore cannon! I totally knew he had it in him, but he just had never pulled out the big guns in the West yet and shut down everyone else like I have seen him do in other places. I think it is totally badass that he won, and Congrats are totally due!!!

I hope to see him clean up in a Crown again soon.

I want to thank everyone for such a dream come true once again. With over 865 fights on Saturday and literally an army of volunteers it was more than I ever could have hoped for.

We are now getting all the footage we can and I will start to edit for a dvd of all the fields and the finals, including the Prova di Amore tourney won by Sir Freewind and Sir Octamesades (Sp) on Sunday.

For some perspective on how much people believed in this, there were 364 signed in at the gate. 104 fighters, and we gave out over 140 silk volunteer scarves to people who gave of their time. Meaning almost everyone there was participating. It was fantastic.

We had fighters from as far away as Japan and from five other Kingdoms. An event I will always remember.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to King Gemini, and the rest of the West Kingdom, and Haven House, and House De Grendelus for their warm hospitality and generosity. We were welcomed like long lost family to a strange land where the earth is definitely "not flat."
We will most assuredly be back for the next Ordeal, this one was astounding and I can only imagine the amount of awesome that will be stuffed into the next.
