Blazonry software?
There used to be a great software program to create your own heraldry, but I can't find one any more. What do you guys use to create your heraldry? Doesn't need to be perfect, but I'd love to have a graphic representation of what I want before I send it to Eff to get it beautified...

Certainly would take you up on that for my Bro-in-laws heraldry, Argent, a squirrel dormant transfixed by an arrow bendwise proper, a chief vair
I'm trying to help my sis, and she has a bunch of ideas in her head, but wants to see them to help her finalize, so I was hoping we could use a simple program to approximate her ideas, neither of us being artistic.

The squirrel is supposed to be "proper" so I guess brown? Otherwise, looks great! Might try to convince him to go with blue instead of white behind the squirrel... What do ya think?

Brown squirrel on blue: bad idea.
Argent field, brown squirrel. Proper arrow (and I'd fletch it a specific color, as white fletching on white is... well, hard to see).

Photoshop will let you create preformed shapes, I use them to drastically cut down on time necessary to make certain heraldic images.
Though if you don't have Photoshop already, it would be a little bit like buying a high-powered laser-sighted assault rifle to trim a bush. It works, and works well, but it a bit of overkill.

I needed the extra excuse to get photoshop. My Digital Rebel XT wasn't quite enough to go past Photoshop elements.

Photoshop is da bomb for heraldry! I use it all the time to create the designs for all the members of my household. You can find damn near anything you need by way of individual charges as heraldic clipart (I've amassed a collection of the stuff pretty quickly) and then just open each component in PS, copy paste it all into one image, arrange as desired, flatten the image layers and voila! Job done.
Presuming that I have already gotten all of my components off the net, I can assemble a coat of arms in photoshop in less than ten minutes.

I have photoshop at home and it is great.
But... if you don't want to spend that much money try this software. It is free and bad ass (especially for being free.

Wow, what would it take to get that in "Argent, a Cow Salient and a Chief Purpure" (though black and white would be just lovely)? I cannot for the life of me find a salient cow clip art that doesn't look like a cartoon cow jumping over the moon

You know, that *should* be a hint to you.
There is a reason that some things just didn't show up in heraldry. Just because it's "possible" based on rules doesn't mean it's acceptable stylistically.

Ah, but some things having been done in our ignorant youth are now nostalgic, whether accurate or not

Well, unless it's a tattoo, there's no reason not to learn and grow.
