UPDATE: Dagger, houppe and rosary are gone. But kidney belt, bascinet shell (not getting reply from interested party), and added a few items.

Woke up this morning with the intent of running out to get some laundry detergent, and found my car had been sacked. The thieves tried to steal it, but all they did was kill it by destroying the column and steal the air conditioning compressor(?) from under the hood various bits of vandalism (probably when they realized they were too inept to steal it, they decided to take it out on the car.
Since I don't have comprehensive and I need a vehicle to drive the 14 miles to work, it looks like I'll be needing some money.

Ironically I had my combat heater and a globose breastplate in the trunk and they didn't touch them. So they were evidently morons.

So without further ado...

First item:
SOLDOne of my pretty new rosaries. The one the on the right, with red and blue coral (9mm and 11mm respectively) and immitation pearls and gold crucifix and red tassel. You can see pic at the bottom of the thread here:

SOLDSecond item: Bag sleeve houppelande. This one is blue like in the picture but with white rabbit fur on the sleeves rather then blck. I paid extra to have this made for me, but instructed them to leave off the buttons and button holes as I wanted to ad my own (I wasn't keen on their buttons or the small number). But the houppelande looked great. 100% linen. Size X-large (I'm 6'3" and 220 lbs and it's a bit too large for me). Needs buttons and button holes. Never worn. Sells for $120 looking for $60.


SOLDThird item: A leather rondel dagger scabbard pictured here. Hardened leather chape with trefoil piercing. Rondel dagger itself is not included. 16" long. Should easily hold a dagger blade upto 14". Asking $30


Fourth item: Kidney belt. 16 oz. glue-hardened leather for 36" waist. 9" wide. Fancy, but good to hide under a tabard or gambeson. The plates on the side overlap like scales and you can bend over easily. All of the leather is riveted to the foam padded double layer of canvas. Closes with velcro and for extra insurance has a ballistic cloth strap. Asking $25.



SOLDFifth item: A bascinet shell. 14 ga. For about a 24" head (I guess it depends on the visor you add if any.) . The bowls is 10" front to back, and 8" side to side internally. And measures about 29" circumference internally. Asking for $120 or best offer.


More stuff to come after I talk to the repair shop to see how many thousands life is going to set me back.

two or three lengths of primary wire, and a wiring diagram for the car, and you can fix it yourself.

It won't be pretty, and _certainly_ won't be theft-proof, if they figure out that you cross A and B and then touch C till it till it's running, but it will work.

AC Compressor? That's bizarre.

You don't really _need_ one of them, either... though finding a belt sized to run without the ACC in the line might be difficult.

The A/C compressor just means that they have a similar vehicle to yours and need a new compressor.

When I was working in Mexico someone stole the mirrors off our van. We went to a local parts store and the guy said he didn't have any, but he could get some. We waited and pretty soon a guy came in carrying two mirrors. Maybe from a junk yard, most likely from somone else's van. We kept our new ones in the back till we left the country.

The rosary is just something I made of spare beads from a rosary I wanted to make for my own kit. I'm non-denominational (raised methodist) and we don't actually use rosaries.

The police in this area (Suburb of Washington DC) do not dust for prints or anything. In my 38 years I've had cars broken into/radios stolen/cars jacked about 6-7 times, and the most they've done is taken a report. Cops in my area (and I come from a family of state and county police) are more of a shake-down crew then a public service, and they are the first to admit it. My nephew is a police officer for a neighboring county and he states that all he does all day is write tickets, when he's not doing that, he's trying to find reasons to give people tickets..."park too close to hydrant, too far from the curb, facing wrong direction on opposite side of street" etc.) My interaction with cops (especially family members stories of how they shake down people) remind me more of medieval tax collectors then defenders for public good.
This time, the cop gave me the advice about using the club", but that was all he did before bidding me a good day. No dusting for prints. No report. But he did ask me if anything was stolen, at the time i didn't notice the air conditioner missing under the hood.

I have had my car robbed twice the first time I didn't even report it because I knew they couldn't and wouldn't do anything. The second time They took my whole car. 96 firebird my first car. I reported it but only in case whoever took it had an accident or hit someone. It showed up a year later at some gas station machanics. I just left it there because I lived in an Apt. at the time and had no place to park it. It had alot of miles and was not worth much. But now I am in a house with plenty of space. I want my sports car back!! Anyway Sorry about your circumstance it is a horrible feeling. Good Luck!

My suggestion would be to call them back and make sure you get a report. Where I work, that is at least what you will get. Will they solve the crime? Will they recover any stolen property, make an arrest based on this or get a conviction in which you are compensated for your damages? I am willing to bet against it.
A lot of variables go into the collection of usable fingerprints, especially by a patrol officer.
I can tell you this, I attempt to serve the public, and do a good job providing a presence in my area. I attempt to solve crimes when I can. But sometimes, we are called on to put a scumbag or two in jail.
None of this is aimed at you Cian, I hope that you are able to recoup some money and I regret the crime in which you are a victim of. I am just tired of hearing what a crappy job the police do.

I have alot of cop friends and infact when i turn 20 1/2 I am going to the police academy On a case like that It is so hard to find the person that did that unless you caught him in the act and saw his face. Other then that the most a patrol office can do is take down a report just like yojimbo said It is hard to get good prints and for just a patrol officer most wont even have the kit on them to do it cause its so impractical. I no how it feels to go through like this only i didnt have anything i could sell to recoup from this but i do know some mechanics and from what i can tell it looks like they just tried pulling out the Ignition and couldnt get it out so gave up and is thats all they did I can tell you out to fix it and it will cost a hell of alot less then going to a shop so if you want the help PM me ttyl

I am sorry about your trubles. It surely sucks.

Just a comment on dusting. The case of your car is not up there in level of priorities. Street cops rarely dust for prints. They may have received some basic training on it, but that type of stuff is usually done by a specialized team, and in cases where the cost and the time justify the deployment of the team. (in other words, murders, arson, kidnappings, etc. Car burglary with property damage simply does not qualify for that, as much as it may suck)
What county do you live in Cian? was it county or city police that responded? In some areas with plenty of shootings and stabbings and dope busts, a broken in car is a minor case indeed, as much as it hurts the owner of the vehicle.

You can (and probably should) request a police report to be written, for insurance purposes, anyway. Since there was a response, the cop HAD to write a report. You can ask for one by mail or in person at the station (bring ID)

First I'd like to say that I am sorry that some low life(s) damaged your car. It is a shame that some people would rather steal from others than work for a living. It makes me angry when hard working, honest people are preyed upon by the useless elements of our society.

Next I'd like to say that I am offended by your commentaries about the Police. I'm hoping that your anger at the criminals who victimized you was inadvertently transfered to the Officer that responded to your call and that you don't normally feel this way. You mentioned that you have several family members who are in Law Enforcement. Do you like them? From your post it certainly doesn't sound like you respect them. Print out your post and pass it around to them at the next family gathering and see what kind of a reaction they have to your characterizations of their job. Even if they happen to work for a department that has its priorities mixed up and directs them to spend an inordinate amount of time on traffic enforcement, they deserve better than being refered to as a "shake down crew" or compared to "medieval tax collectors". These officers risk their lives every day that they come to work. They never know if they will come home to their families at night or if they will be killed in the line of duty. I have been to three Police funerals in the last six months (Pennsauken, NJ and two in Philadelphia, Pa.). I have no doubts in my mind that the Police are "defenders for the public good".

I was feeling a bit of heat exhaustion before I even made it on site (even though I'd been drinking a ton of water the day before and the day-of). I wound up milling around the archery field for awhile (if you saw an archer w/a longbow, blue liripiped hood and brocade cotehardie and pale blue chausses, that was me.)
I was waiting on the "carpool" to pick me up, and so we didn't get there until 2pm. THEN we wound up leaving around 8 or 9. Most of the time there I was in a headache driven daze. I missed catching up with a lot of folks. (I also got some razing from Blackspear about not coming in armor for the ravine battle to add insult to the injury) .

I have. My sister was a cop in Indiana. It was her in fact that told me not to count on the police for protecting you from criminals of opportunity.
There are good cops, and bad cops. However, there is this conception that there is a seperation, or wall (blue) between the law enforcement community and us little folk. Your ranting to this poor crime victim who might be upset that he got little or no actual attention about his predicament just serves to solidify that notion.
Then again, I prefer self-reliance and personal vigilance to reactionary post-situation support and compliance by state sponsored revocation of freedom. To each his own though.

I owe D-man an apology, because I still have not gotten his Houpe into the mail, and it is without any doubt my own fault. Long work hours and other commitments have limited my ability to get to a post office. The first opportunity, I was late getting to the post office by 5 minutes. The second attempt, I left the house with everyone else's package but his, and had no time to go back before the PO closed.
I've also made a FedEx run before the PO runs, and if I knew I was going to have so much trouble in the following week getting to a Post office, I could have just sent it from there, but hind-sight is always 20/20.

Anyhow, anyone else that has paid; you should either have or will have your items today or tomorrow...unless your name is D.Sabastian. Hopefully this will not equate to a severe pounding on the combat field at Pennsic for my inability to follow through in a timely manner.
(FYI, you can probably get with my girlfriend and start your own "How Cian has let me down" support group...it's sad, but true).
