heh, came across my first helmet

Post by Dierick »

A guy in the local group said he had just got a helmet that he needed some work done on. Turns out it was the first helmet I ever made for someone, from back in highschool. I believe it was the second helmet I ever made, after a copy of rainalds sallet from the pattern here.

It's seen some pretty good damage, but is still pretty structurally sound. Almost all of the brass trim is gone, the brass covered ear guards are completely gone, and the hinges were near failing. But, the welds are all solid, the grill is still sturdy, and its still as heavy as ever. :p

I ripped it all apart tonight and trashed the hinges and brass. I'm going to beat the dents out of it, sandblast it, and polish it back up. Maybe make a new grill, and definitely make solid hinges for it(used door hinges the first time). The new owner has a bit shorter neck and the cheeks are digging into his collar bone, so I'm going to reshape those and trim them down a bit.

I'll get some pics up once I get it cleaned up.

It was originally Wayland's, from Seawinds. The 'one eyed make a wish wonder boy'.
