Longship Company Reenactor Reserve

As an officer of the Longship Company, Ltd,, please allow me to kick-around an idea here from the LSCo annual meeting and some further discussion with the board of trustees. I decided to post to see what sort of interest there would be in this among the reenactment community.

The Longship Company has been contacted by both educational and Hollywood movie production companies from time to time. The Sae Hrafn and the Gyrfalcon are pretty good for anything from the Viking Age to the Third Crusade (and if you shoot around the steerboard/stern rudder change, the Sae Hrafn is good into the renaissance [at least in Scotland and Scandinavia] and the Gyrfalcon is good up to the present day. The Gyrfalcon was used to depict the landing of Scottish explorers in the New World in the 1500s as part of a “Secrets of the Templersâ€
Retired civil servant, part time blacksmith, and seasonal Viking ship captain.

It sounds like a good idea and a nice way for folks to dip their feet in to see how they like it . If my time opens up as I hope it will this winter I'd give it a go.

Would the basic soft kits for this era from HE be OK for this?

Cet, not to worry...I suspect I can come up with something.

Atli...you need "reserve volunteers?" I will need your standards, etc, but I'll be happy to help. All I really have to do is figure out a way of getting there. I'll talk to you about it on the 31st in Philly.

Sign me up! Doing the "Quest for King Arthur" filming a few years back was great fun, and I even got my face on film! So I should definitely get on your list. (No idea if I'll actually be able to make it to any of these gigs, but...) You know I'm good for just about any era you can come up with.

I keep thinking it would be cool to film something on Jason and the Argonauts, since I have nearly enough Bronze Age stuff to outfit a crew. Still need one big guy in a leather jacket and hockey mask with a bronze butcher knife to be Jason, bwa ha ha!

If I were still in the neighborhood, I'd be glad to get back into things.

I can say for certain that anyone who is and has any interest ought to seriously consider this.

Meanwhile, Atli, though I realize it's very unlikely that anything would happen up here in the Madison, WI area, if it ever does, I can raise the fyrd - muster up a few folks, possibly most of a crew even for the Sae Hrafn.

Could you PM me the standards for kits? I'd be interested... though being in upstate NY, probably not all that useful.
