Helm Strapping

Post by D.Z.P. »

I am having a little issue with strapping my new (to me) helm. it already has holes for a lanyard to run through it. I have been just tying a lanyard to the chinstrap and tying it in the back of my head.

What I am thinking about is cutting a slit where the hole is now and using a strap and buckle instead of the lanyard.

My question is this.

How should I cut the slit?

I was thinking of just drilling a bunch of holes inline with eachother and then filing the sharp stuff down.

Are there any better ideas?

The ideal solution would be to have a very expensive punch setup, with a slot shaped punch. I know very few places that have them, they tend to be really huge expensive things, and most of them would not let you get an allready constructed helmet into the worky bits.

So, given that harsh reality that abandons my hopes at lazyness...

Yup. Easiest way to cut a slot is to punch or drill series of holes, and file or cut them out.
It looked better in my head....
Damnit.
