We have a lot of flat ring, riveted steel and 6mm chainmail in stock. Drop us a line if you want to get something right away. We also have some aluminum riveted mail in stock.

I have never used aluminum chainmail. how does it hold up to SCA combat? I want the mail more for the look of having it than for the actual protection it offers so the light weight thing doesn't bother me, and the low maintenance thing is super cool, but if it doesn't hold up then I just can't use it.

I would not go aluminum for combat. I do not think it holds up to the rigors of combat well. Flat riveted or the 6mm will be your best bet.

Are all your stainless mail items blackened? The name in the catalog listing doesn't always include that word.

All of the flat riveted items, stainless and mild are blackened. I fixed the headers to reflect this.

Your Grace, when should you be getting back in stock the Blackened Rivetted Stainless Chainmail Haubergeon (XL).

Thinking of getting another shirt, since in my frustration of 2 months, I got rid of the one I bought in March.

The next shipment should be on it's way to me within days. It should include much of the stainless order. As soon as I have a packing list, I will post what items are coming in here.

I would suggest pre-ordering now to ensure you get in on this order as chainmail is moving quickly.

It is not listed yet. We are still spinning up the info on the chainmail as it is a fairly new game for us. In addition, it is the height of the season, which keeps me in the shop building armor more than sitting at the computer.

Mini review:

I saw some of the maille Saturday, but only had time to really look at the rings themselves and get a feel for weight. My fault, by the time I got off the horse and Andreas was done fighting, I did not have my arming coat handy, the maille was still in wrapped shipping bags with some production or shipping oil or grease on them and my wife would have killed me if I tried this stuff on over my silk tunic...

The 6MM blackened rivetted non-stainless looked very, very nice, was supple and should work great for things like voiders in particular where flexibility is a must. The links are roundish in cross section with the overlaps flattened, so pretty smooth, probably will tear up an undergarment far less than welded maille does.

The rivets looked like something other than a wedge rivet, maybe a round head with a normal round shaft with the end pressure peened to expand instead of mushroomed to a flat dome, but they were not unattractive. It is just that the small end of the rivet looked a tiny bit bigger and stuck out slightly more than you might expect, not a problem just a different look (for all I know it is stronger than a wedge rivet anyway).

The flat blackened stainless rivetted links were not very black at all, just darkish (a plus in my opinion, they looked good). The XL hauberk made out of these was very, very light, maybe 22 pounds I think Andreas said. I did not take it all the way out of the bag as they were packing up to leave and I was showing the links around to other people. The links are very, very flat, much like knut's stainless welded, not round in cross section like the 6mm ones. I suspect it is pretty strong. The overlaps did not seem as neat as the 6mm, but nothing to complain about. Probably a bit more protective than the 6mm for rattan combat in terms of spreading the force out, but not nearly as flexible.

In both the stainless and 6mm, the rings were pretty uniform, so I did not see the typical problems with imported Indian junk, where some rings are grossly off size or misshapen. I did not get a good enough look to check a big section of either maille samples for missing rivets or missing rings overall, but there were none missing in the sections I examined.

For SCA use, either rivited maille looks nicer than welded stainless typically does, even if it is more likely to come apart eventually. I'd prever the rivetted and have to make a repair at some point.

In short, while I'd like to get a better look when I have more time, both products looked good and worth the prices quoted. And it is Andreas, so if there is a problem with a given piece, I'm sure he'll take care of it promptly and efficiently.

Your reviews and pictures are appreciated. As it turns out, the 6mm is slightly heavier than the flat riveted mail. I got to weighing some of the itmes we had in stock. The difference in weight is insignificant in the smaller items. The larger items, XL hauberks, have about 6 pounds difference in weight. Not much consdiering the look and the flexibility that 6mm affords.

I will start getting some photos up next.

On another note- I have just heard that the next shipment will be ready to ship with in a few days. This shipment will include mostly the rest of the mild steel items, some of the 6mm items and a very little of the stainless items. The balance of the order will be sent in about 30 days.

The good news is that the XXL Haubergeons are coming in early. They goofed and made a few in the wrong size and they included them in this order. I will be shipping these as they come in.

Aluminum is going to be the lightest but I do not think it is strong enough for SCA combat. The flat stainless and flat mild are both much lighter than butted mail. An XL haubergeon in aluminum is 10 lbs, 19lbs for flat stainless and flat mild and 25 lbs for the 6mm. The 6mm is the most comfortable and flexible as well as strong. I have all but the stainless in stock. Stainless is incoming within the next month.

As always- Pre order to get it as soon as it hits the beach.
