The Kindness of Baltizar of Darkyard

Post by Jonny Deuteronomy »

During the 2nd field battle at Pennsic, I was involved in a fairly brutal flank-counterflank engagement against the back of the left center of the red army (I was on the blue team).

Our flanker group became encircled and were fighting desperately. As I was trying to back out of the now untenable situation, I bumped into something unyielding and thought it was a teammate.

It wasn't.

It was Baltizar of Darkyard and friends. I think it must have taken him at least 2 or 3 "milords" before I turned around and he gently tinked me across the eyeslot and explained that, although he was pleased to have made my acquaintance, he was not my teammate, and that I perhaps I might take note of my new circumstance (my death).

I dropped my spear and went straght down on the ground, something I NEVER like to do. Usually I ground my spear and back into my own backfield, but it was already far away and in what direction I had no idea. All semblances of lines or backfields were luxuries enjoyed by other, more fortunately placed fighters by then.

I fetal-positioned on my back protectively and watched the battle rage above me. I soon realized that this was something very few people get to see from this vantage point, and tried my best to enjoy it. The fighting grew even more furious, and the bodies from both teams started piling up around me.

I was going to go back, yet again, Under The Pile.

It was then that Baltizar went down as well.

He crouched protectively over me on his hands and knees. He shucked bodies piling up on him and yelled at the ones that insisted upon their right to fall on me anyways. Because of him, I escaped being injured by the crushing pile of manky steel encased meat that eventually covered us both. I have seen debilitating injuries come from that. I too have been injured in the past by being Under The Pile.

What I don't understand is how B. knew I had been laid off my job and had no medical insurance and that a catastrophic injury could ruin my entire REAL life.

So I now publish these words for all to see and know.

I offer my humblest and sincerest thanks to the noble and kind Baltizar of Darkyard.
God Save and keep you, Gentle Sir.
I am forever your humble servant.

Most Sincerely,
Kensman Trystyn of Anglesey

I love hearing stories like this. :D

Helps make up for evil crap like the guy who ran hard and tackled someone to the ground during one of the battles, injuring her. :x
