No, he is no longer in business.

If you have outstanding orders you need to contact Sean of the chipindales about resolving that.

Sean posts here on the AA

He hasn't been in business for quite some time. Personal life issues required him to get a 9 to 5er.

He was for a bit. He was able to get a bunch of back orders out and he was selling product through Known World Treasures. But, he then had a life crisis and had to close shop permanently.

The last I heard, he was working under a new name "Fire Drake Steel" and was only manufacturing for a retailer/distributor "Known World Treasures".
But he was not going to be taking on any new commissions.

I do believe he is still making armour for known world treasures, but i cannot gurantee that as I have not heard from him in a while.
Unfortunately, his job has taken him from the SCA for a little while.

It is my hope he comes back soon. I had the opportunity to get to know him at Pennsic 36, when he was warlord of Calontir. Great guy, and a fine leader and commander to boot IMO.

Yes, as of right now Waldryk has closed up shop. A big part of the reason for shutting down was his bookkeeper was basiclly embezzling money. He has made great progress in getting backorders out on the ones that he knows about. If you or anyone you know still has a backorder out please get in touch with myself or Sean of the Chipendales so that we may try to make arrangements to the satisfaction of the customer. Waldryk may have closed up shop but he is still working to get the backorders done and into customers hands.

You have to really be careful when getting an office mgr. Staying away from cash and check payments, and sticking to credit card and paypal orders is a good way to keep things bulletproof.
I had 18k embezzled in 02 by my g/f at the time who I had put in charge of bookkeeping. We had a lot of checks and cash back then.

I still have an outstanding order, for a fixed-grill bascinet in 14ga stainless. I'll PM Sean about it, and see if I can forward all of the e-mails relating to the subject over to him.

It wasn't directed at you, it was directed at waldryk. Dante is not a fan. He also got jumped on by people for calling Waldryk a bad buisnessman.

Technically he got jumped on because he basically called Waldryk and his helpers liars when Waldryk tried to straighten his business out and fill back orders.

Even Waldryk will tell you he is a bad business man. Good armourer, but poor at the business end. But, he has been making strides to fulfill past orders and make things right.

Yes CC and paypal can be better protection for the business owner against embezzlement but in this case his bookkeeper/office manager/ business manager ran pretty much everything.

To Dante and anyone else who is skeptical or not a fan:
One: There have been several folks who have gotten their orders or a refund between Feb and Jun to include several fake orders that people have put in trying to take advantage of the situation.

Two: At least he is trying to make good and has at least two people that are available for contact and is in contact with Waldryk on a semi-regular basis unlike the multitude of other armourers who really have disappeared with money and orders.

Three: Now you can be happy because he is out of business and can not "take the money and run" to another customer again.

3 was a very childish thing to say. I wish he had had no problems and did wonderful buisness. I wish that of any armourer.

The fact of the matter is, ultimately he is at fault. I am sure he realizes it.

You can think so, but remember there have been several people who did wish that Waldryk would just go out of business and stop "taking people's money and disapearing". I only told them they now have their wish. Sometimes; childish, mean, insensitive, and yes even well deserved, appropriate, and nice (thats both sides of the spectrum for those looking too deep into things), comments and statements need and must be said or reminded about that have been said. Today we as a society have become so anti-confrontational that we have people running around acting and being @$$#@!e$ because they feel entitled to it and noone has the guts/balls to say something otherwise.

I don't know what to think about something: there were people who had legitimate complaints about missing orders that spoke up about it but then never came back to say that it was fixed. Once it became known through second sources that Waldryk was fixing orders several people spoke up about missing orders and yet they too never spoke up about the fact that yes the order was finally resolved. I mean wtf, we as people/humans are so quick to condem yet almost must be forced or goaded into admitting that the problem/issue was resolved.

Also, how many armourers have we had that has folded under in the last two years. How many that have legitametly taken money and disapeared, diaspeared as in no contact at all, noone coming forward and saying hey talk to me I talk to them, or even someone saying hey we know this really sucks that you've waited this long without but this is why? I can think of at least two armourers who have had to pretty much shut down while they still have back orders overdue, one of them is Brand of West Coast Armoury and the other is Waldryk. And to the best of my knowledge Brand is also working to get his backorders out to the customer, yet we don't hear about any of his customers coming back either to say they finally got their stuff. The only armourer that I can think of that anyone does come back to say that they did finally get their stuff is for Torvaldr and he is still in business.

Sorry for the long post but it fustrates me to not see people to come back and say yes Armourer XXXX finally sent me my stuff and it arrived/ sent me a refund.

Edit:
I would agree with you to an extent that it is his fault. Only I would say that it isn't his fault but it is his responsibilty. He delegated the job and duties of running his business to someone else, they screwed him over royally. It is his responsibility to make good on all the back orders out there and he knows this that is why he continues to work the few hours a week available to him to get his backorders fixed. I read somewhere on AA a statement that I think holds much truth: It's not what mistakes a man makes that shows his honor but what he does about it that shows his true honor.

So, Sean is not the guy to talk to, I see.

Here is my question, and I will direct it to Known World Treasures as well:

If Waldryk still owes me a helm, pending my delivery of 60 bucks to him, and Known World Treasures has a helm of the exact same type in stock, made by Waldryk, am I therefore entitled to the helm that they have, pending delivery of the remaining 60 bucks?

Keep in mind, I ordered this helm almost 3 and a half years ago, and I was directly misled when I made phone calls and sent e-mails. I think I've earned it.

I would say NO. Known World Treasures was not involved in your original Transaction with Waldryk. It is unfair to make them pay the price for that failed transaction by depleting their stock without payment in full.

I would try recontacting Waldryk to reconcile this problem. As has been said he had business side issues in the recent past. Issues concerning orders and money being taken, but said orders not being given to him so he could make the product.

If you can't get ahold of Waldryk directly, trying a different avenue like KWT may help. But, to ask for delivery of an item that KWT did NOT sell you is unreasonable.

Sure, that makes sense. I have contacted KWT and will do whatever they recommend to get in touch with the armorer.

What annoys me, though, is that I was told, point-blank, that the helm had been sent to me and they would give me a tracking number, and then I never heard anything from them again. This was almost two years ago.

I'm not doubting you but you should have found it weird the you still owed the guy $60 and he just mailed the thing and trusted that after you got your helm you would finish paying him.

And you should be annoyed, I would be but that is also why I researched and researched armorers before I send them any money. But like Irish said your beef is with Waldryk not with his new employer.

We agreed to a COD, because I had expressed my displeasure with not having received anything and my wariness to hand over any more money until I received the item.

Irish, in looking back over the e-mails in question, I think it may have been his bookkeeper--does anyone known who Snowlyne Renn is? She was the one I talked to on the phone (aside from Waldryk, with whom I also spoke and who told me the helm was "at the grinder") and she may have been simply saying things to get me to hold on and not press the issue.
