My Kopis/Machaira project

Post by Glaukos the Athenian »

What do you guys think thus far?

It is not perfect but at least I was able to add some blade width to the weapon. I need to work on the grip/hit now. it is about 25 inches long...

The problem of course is that the original grips are a mess for SCA use...

Any technical advise to make it look better?

Thanks!!

Looks nice.

As for the grip you could just flare the base, so that way you have soming to keep it in your hand.

not bad pick up some wax paper to help sheet the ducktape by placing one layer down and then overlaping the next layer by about 1/2 inch you can increase the with of the tape to help avoid wrinkles.
there will be a bit of a shingled look but that can not be avoided unless you start bying ducktape in sheet form.

as far as the pomel you might want to consider a grip like the type torvaldr uses. I think he found a whole sale distributor for these but Im not quite shure.

Idea springs to mind.

get some pvc pipe (straight piece and a curved piece) attach and glue em together and slide em other the existing rattan.

Carve em/paint em up like Sir Angus did to his dagger hilts and you have a unique handle

You might also consider using cloth/atheletic tape rather than duct tape. The atheletic tape tends to lay 'flatter' so you can reduce some of the wrinkles.
