Maille, What is a split front and back?

Post by courtjester »

I am looking for information on maille, what is a split back and front? Is it where the maille is split to just below the family jewels for easy movement? Or can it be where the maille is split up the back for easy on/off and then laced with leather? Please let me know.

I think it was mainly for horses and movement. I seem to recal some pictures that depict side slits on footmen but it may be angle.

The likelyhood of getting hit in the side of the leg is a lot higher than on the inside.

That's a good question.

My Maile is split up the front like I asked for. But it is lude. And I do not have a horse.

How can I close it?
