New Dou Jan '09 - IMG HEAVY

Post by Saburou »

At last, just in time for the East Kingdom's largest event (Market Day at Birka), I'm done with my new dou.

Specs:
11lbs
1075, .20" Aluminum
Kanagu Mawari in 12oz leather, egawa made with Deco-color ink
5/8" laces
Initial planning done August 28th, 2008.
Completed January 29th, 2009.

The original inspiration (photos from Rhinohide):

SWEET! You are going to have to get better gauntlets to go with that then the ones I traded to you (No I'm NOT giving back the spring steel ones. I've built new thumbs and I LURV them).

BTW, .2" seems awful thick. Should that be .12" thick? .12" (actual production size for aluminum that should really be 1/8" or .125") will last as a shield a might long time... even in the East. Anything thicker then 3/8" is damn near bullet proof.

Very very nice.

How did you get the russet finish on the aluminum plates?

Awesome! But will it fit in your airplane luggage?

You're quite right, Sean - .125" on the aluminum. Yeah, my gaunts are always gonna be a problem, but dude, I really love this current pair. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Marcus, I'm gonna have to finish a plastic hidden kit before I come back out to CA. This is too precious for the vicissitudes of air travel.

Vermillion, I'm working on kohire, but I may just stick with my fabric kote over hidden armour.

Losthelm, I get mine from Laces for Less (lacesforless.com I think). They're quick and have perfectly acceptable prices. Incidentally, there's something like $45 of laces in this suit, but the spacing is very narrow and the laces are extra wide and lush.
