Need options for good starter helms

Post by Sean Powell »

Hello,

A local newer fighter is gathering up his cash to buy his own helm and get out of the loaner bucket. He wants to purchase a reasonable cheep starter helm as his primary aim is rapier and not heavy. We may actually start into C&T together which potentially means even more equipment to buy.

I've made recomendations as to reputable sources for starter armor and helms, mostly Mad Matt and Stonekeep, but he seems fixated on a 'Sugarloaf' from Ashcraft-Baker. I think that might be the fugliest helm I have seen in ages.

I'm looking for other good reputable sources for beginer helms. They have to be safe, the company has to have a good record of on-time delivery, and the helms have to be affordable (think cheep enough to justify replacing in 2-3 years)

I tried the search function but it chunked out on me twice.

Who would you recomend?

Thanks,
Sean

A week ago I'd have said Hjalmr but he's not doing commissions. I would however give a nod to Jackie over at Shamrock to make something that would satisfy the need of C/T and Heavy.

Would it help if I said for a little extra I can put perf plate in the eye slots of my sugarloafs?

It'd end up at about $250 and wouldn't need replacing.
