Best in various forms?

Post by MarkH »

I didn't want to derail the other topic.
We had a thread listing the best in various forms a while back, I'd like to see what's going on with these forms now.
I'll start as my picks for the West Kingdom.

Sword and buckler: Sir Robert Woodsende

Poleweapon: Tough one, Brand isn't playing as much, and Dimitry is OoK righ now. Ajax Thermopolakles

GreatSword: My Knight is retired, and there are 2-3 really hot guys coming up, but I am probably the most succesful right now

Two Sword: Nobody is active and tearing it up right now. Duke Fabian?

Impact weapon: Duke Rolf for his scary mace work

Sword/Shield: Take your pick from the top few gods right now: Dukes Jade, Uther, Mathais Connor, Hauc, Count Titus etc...

Looking forward to hearing other opinions and from other kingdoms

West, take II

Sword and buckler -- I think for sword and buckler Hauoc has kind of proved his dominance.. just because it's a sidestrapped triangular buckler doesn't make it less of a buckler :-) Do we still count Hanse as one of ours?

Glaive -- Uther is actually devastating with a glaive. So is Duke Matthias. Ajax is good; Achilles was getting pretty dangerous (and he only uses the point!), but I don't know how active he is, between life and injuries.

Dane Axe -- Brand, if he's active. After that, probably Sir Talorc and Duke Thorfinn.

Bastard Sword -- Marc d'Arundel.

Caid is pretty close to an all S/S all the time kingdom.

THL Mikhail of the Kuma is pretty good with a polearm (finalled in Crown once, final 4 yesterday). Sir Attila, who is in Calontir (IIRC) now but grew up here also doesn't suck.

Duke Edric is pretty awesome with sword & madu (not my favorite style, but I figure I have limited right to complain until I can beat him).

Sir Iain McClennan not only fought sword and buckler but based his style on I.33, and got good enough to get knighted for it...sadly, he doesn't make it out much any more.

That's about it for Caidan weapons depth. There are a few others that are good within Caid, but I wouldn't say world class.

Dmitriy,
Good point about Hauoc, I was being pretty rigid about what consitutes a buckler in my head.
Achilles and Esmerelda took a planned hiatus to work on their house. I hope to see him out this spring, or I would have included him.
Good list for the dane axe

Drachenwald
A bit tricky to give a single name for some of the categories

Sword & Buckler: Sir Ivan and Duke Elffin

Sword & shield: Sir Siegfried (And what I've heard from others Sir Ulf and Sir Alaric whom I haven't yet met)

Polearm: Lord Macarius

2 sticks: Haven't met any good ones yet

Spear: Sir Ivan, Sir Prothal plus a couple of others

I had several enjoyable passes with Sir William this weekend.

I can't imagine why you might think so
