Floating Knees - Any Experience?

Adjusting my shovel greaves since I got some legwraps/wicklebangers etc.

Ripped the shin off and now I have a single plastic knee, one strap around the back of the knee, then a small "upper" part with a strap (very small, it's an old catchers shin I added a plastic knee to)

So I've ripped the shin off, put the knee on by itself, put my pants on, then wrap my legs up to just bellow the knee. Any tips? It feels like it'll work, but I figured I'd ask here incase anyone has done something similair.

I wear crash pad padded shorts, hense no quisses(sp?) to hang them from etc.

What's the floating cop mounted to? Is it just held in place by the knee strap? Does the greave help support it a bit? Any pants or leg wraps?

edit: well.. nothing I assume, but maybe they're laced to pants or something that I don't know about.

In my B kit I wear knee cops attached to volleyball knee pads. The trick is that the last time I used them, the eyelets I set up to tie them together came off because the fabric of the back of the pad stretches.

A good solution would be stitching four pieces of leather on each corner and drilling the leather and the cops on the corner and then tie them.

Do you know anyone who works with leather to do that for you?

yep thats how i do it as well.
then you just have to slip the knee pads on and your knees are ready to go.
under pants of course.

Thanks Rowan, that is the solution I have been looking for. I sewed some ties to the knee pads and tried tying the cops on but it drooped to much for my taste. I think this might be the answer.

My current rig has the Crash Pad hockey shorts that I've mounted to the bottom of the crash pads.

It's problematic when I go to my knees since I drop to pads (the knees don't fold under me). Well, not problematic, still adequate protection.. just .. wierd.

Not sure if this is optimal, I may make another change soon.

The wickelbander I have help keep the motocross knees I have in place. The knees do hinge, so they provide adequate protection standing or kneeling, but I don't notice any droop-age.
