I am aggrieved I did not go. A pox upon maintenance scheduled for Spring Break in my lab.

You are not alone in your grievance Audax, I too am severely bummed about not being able to go this year. I've avowed to make it next year, better prepared and with even more improvements to my kit.

Nice pics, makes me grumpy.

I am in the same boat; had the time off approved, the cash set aside, then I canceled the time off because I thought I had to scramble to find a new place to live.
A week after I canceled my time off I found a place. No deposit, only first months rent. Easy stuff.

I had to head home halfway through. I fought in the town and bridge battles, but missed out on the ravine, field, and great weapons only battles - the ones I really wanted to do. That really sucks. It'd almost be better to have missed the whole thing, frankly. :x

No, I exaggerate... I'm glad I went while I could, but next year I'm not missing the good ones.
If you were a poor Indian with no weapons, and a bunch of conquistadors came up to you and asked where the gold was, I don't think it would be a good idea to say, "I swallowed it. So sue me."

I am strongly considering the options and possibilities of going next year as well. It would be my first Gulf War. I'd have a lot of obstacles to overcome, not the least of which are money and 'stuff' -- having never done camping at events, I don't have any of the requisite 'stuff.' I know there's a hotel on site, but I've also heard that it's 100% booked a year in advance. (I am definately one who prefers to hotel it at overnight events: a) I *need* a hot shower in the morning to feel human. b) camping in the cold makes me ache for hours and I'm a wuss.) Hrm.

Things to ponder.

The GW site does have shower houses and mostly has hot water. The hot water can get sparse when alot of people hit the showers at the same time. While it's tenting and camping, it's actually pretty decent tenting and camping.

My vow is this is the last year I stay in a mundane tent. I want a Yurt..with a real bed:)

My wonderful hubby built me an Oseburg bed a few years ago. We put a memory foam topper and a down comforter on a Aerobed, and put it in the frame. It's practically like sleeping at home.

Slept on my Oseberg bed, in my Yurt. Yes, it is well worth the trouble of hauling and setting them up. 8)

Here's a link to the one I just created:

http://www.asbrand.com/pics/projects/os ... bed_01.skp

You must download and install Google's Sketchup to use that file. It is a free program from Google.

I highly recommend it.

Agnes,

Haven't looked at the Sketchup file (His Grace uses it, too, btw), but I would make one suggestion - make the legs of the bed high enough to store your tubbies underneath. Vastly improves the space in the tent.

Your Grace, Asbrand- thank you for the links and the feedback. It's going on my project list (which is getting longer by the day- GW has that effect on me... lol)

Missed you on the field, Your Grace. I hope you heal quickly and well. You're always an inspiration to me.

Agnes,
What size yurt were you looking for?

'I know a guy'

There were 5 or 6 yurts of my design at war this year and a few more that didn't make it. (the owners stayed in the lakehouse)

Easily portable, can even take em to weekend events without much hassle.

Knee's already feeling better. As soon as I got home and could get off of it (GW is not conducive to resting the legs, even when you are NOT fighting), it really started to improve. If the last twinges go away, I may go out to practice this weekend.

Now me and my orthopedist need to have a talk...

Once again, John, you are my hero.

That's neater than tits, which is hard to do!

BTW, that gods awful noise like somebody torturing a cow is me screaming. I pushed so hard on that shield wall that I hurt myself. That was so much fun!

Of all things I miss GW the most. I'm thinking I may come out of retirement and go to the next one. Of course that would mean I'd have to start going back to fighter practice and have Morgan beat me back into fighting competency, not sure if he's up for that monumental a task :P
