it came from E-bay posibly hot helm
The discription is off a bit and wondering if it may be stolen
If the listing is correct it would have been a few years ago but I though it may be a good referance to days gone by.

If the seller thinks he could get $150.00 for both of those together in their present shabby condition, he's nuts. $150 for one alone is altogether out of line. Someone should tell him you can get new bargrill bascinets from professional makers for $135 about anywhere.
Forty dollars apiece, tops. I think that's what the market would bear for rusted if soundly built circa-1980 SCA-engineered fixer-upper spangenhats of no attempt at an authentic appearance.
Lostie, there's an on-site way to shrink a long-tailed URL, and it's less bother than going to TinyURL. Follow the directions in the Tip: line after you mouse over the url to bring them up. You will basically stick your entire URL inside the first bracket-URL-tag with an = between URL and the URL itself. (Don't use quotemarks; that's something else.) Then type some short text and finish by closing the whole with the slash-URL tag. Snugs things up very nicely.

There are a metric buttload of people who have walked away from the SCA over the years leaving gear in other peoples closets, in dorms, and in storage facilities that eventually get sold off.
I've seen SCA helms turn up in the WEIRDEST places. Saw one used as a planter once. Guy who had it had no idea what it was, found it at a yard sale or flea market or something.
It's just how it works out. now, if it was say, a custom job from one of the high end shops, I'd think "yeah.. that might be stolen".. but those honestly look like someone's high school shop project. (and may well have been)

The one with the brass and neck flare (attempt at a Roman of some sort ?) is bugging me. I know that helm. Just can't place it.
The other one, well, I think I would remember that grill if I had ever seen it before

It's bugging me too. But thats probably just because it's a big stinkin' heap of crap.
Screw normal. You know why? 'Cause if you're normal, the crowd will accept you. But if you're deranged, the crowd will make you their leader. Chris Titus

Viscount Bear of the Axe had a gold painted helm that was similar enough to the Roman-oid one here I wonder if they came from the same shop. Nothing that makes me suspicious of theft or anything along those lines, but I'm just trying to fill in a hole in my memory

Glad it's just not me. I know I've seen a very similar helm to the Roman. Could just be a common constructon style.
Too bad it isn't cheaper. Much cheaper.
That other one. Well at least the face is only held on by two large rivits. I think they could both be functional and legal with a little work.

I'm thinking someone out of the Rhydderich Hael, on the order of 20 years ago ....

If they aren't 80-ish Rydderich Hael manufacture, they are definetely from the same pattern, esp the spagen.
I remember similar helms still being used in the loaner pool in the 90's.
Maybe Sir Bedivere kicked some out?
The Romanish one sorta reminded me of Boldo's work, but after looking closely-nah.
Someone put a decent buckle on one of them, though, LOL

This is a full-contact martial sport where twenty-year-old athletes can routinely get thrashed by fifty-year-olds with a gut and no knees

I'm wondering if the bizarro grill was an aftermarket, because the helm behind it looks an awful lot like the James O'Neal manufactured spangens that were standard issue to the Black Leather Band...
