Come join us June 27th here....

Hopefully it's close enough for some of our Glenn Abhann and maybe Calontir brothers and sisters to join us as well.

If you want to try out your medieval (or modern) fishing gear, this is the place to do it! A 7-day nonresident fishing license is only 30 bucks, and if you can't catch fish in Barkley Lake you couldn't catch them at a fishmonger's stall either. There's smallmouth, largemouth, and Kentucky bass, white and yellow bass, stripers, hybrids, catfish, crappie, umpteen kinds of sunfish, freshwater drum, white perch, yellow perch, etc., etc., etc. I'd go a day early and catch dinner for the event, and stay a day after to catch some to take home. Borrow a bigger cooler, you'll need it.

I seriously miss western KY. It's my version of Paradise.

Don't start with fishing there:

I'll miss Border Raids though. It is a fun war with a surprising number of old timers to catch up with. Lots of war stories even when I wasn't there

I may actually be going this year. I'm not sure how my girlfriend thinks we can afford it while I'm out of work, but she seems really happy that I'll be out of the house for a weekend.

Don't forget the DEET! The mosquitoes usually aren't pesky except at dusk, so you shouldn't have to spritz yourself several times a day. It's better to have it and not need it, than to ...

I will be coming from my hunnymoon in Miami and on the way back to Ohio I will be hitting Border Raid.

I will more than likely be the only fighter from Middle Marches.
Maybe if I feed them they wont hit so hard

Roger that, Buddy.

Actually, one of the reasons I like Border Raids is it's always seemed a friendly rivalry to me, not real antipathy between Meridies and the Midrealm. After all, you guys already have the Kingdom of the East to focus your hate on. Do you see Border Raids as sort of a warm-up for Pennsic?

Well, I'm getting psyched about it. I was starting a packing list in my head, and stopped when I remembered it's only a weekend -- it's not like Pennsic or Gulf Wars. I'll head up Friday, have a nice quiet evening, then one day of sheer B to the W activity, then come home Sunday.

I want to be prepared for heat, though. I've already got Under Armour shorts and shirt; I was thinking of getting one of the skullcaps. Anybody use those? Do they help?

Can't wait here, either. I LOVE Border Raids.

And certainly +1 on the "friendly war"... GREAT folks and great times!

It does look like we might be out matched in shear numbers. I don't know too many of the upper Ohio fighters that are coming.

I keep being told that most people loose like 5lbs at border raids because its like walking through a Lake.

Ulrich you guys have stomped us plenty of times...just not recently. The location of this event guarantees that you guys will probably have about 40 guys to fight.

After the initial field battles the sides will probably be evened up for fun's sake.

As for us "hating" the East- we don't hate them. Our culture changed from ONE yearly contest with them I used to really bum on that fact, but what can you do? We understand each other alot more now.

Isn't Border Raids the longest-running continual war in SCA history?

Well, if this is Border Raids XXXV, and they haven't skipped a year, the first one would have been in 1975; three years after the first Pennsic. But definitely one of the longest-running.

I'm looking forward to this event, as I always do. It's always on my birthday weekend, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than a day of awesome fighting with great people! I think that one of the things that I look forward to the most is the Legion of the Bear/Red Company fight; the Legion is a most honorable and fearsome opponent and I love trading blows with you guys.

4 and a half hours from Northern KY. My budget might not be able to do it this year. I'd like to see all the Nichers that are coming up too. :(

Border raids is loads of fun, though yeah, you'll sweat so much you'll lose body parts. Afterwards Pennsic feels like a stroll in the shade.

That site looks awesome!

Just bumping.

Guess it's almost time for my summer haircut. If it were up to me, I'd just shave my head and save 20 bucks, but my girlfriend would prefer I get a real haircut.
