It looks like both of you are fighters of skill, and this was a joyful thing to watch.

If I may -- the barrier is not like a normal SCA fight. In a normal fight, your strategy of keeping your range with nimble footwork would be commendable; here, however, it is somewhat misplaced -- part of the barrier fight is engaging in fierce blows, both receiving and delivering, and not backing down.
Hark the moaning gulls around him,
Hark their shuddering calls of terror
At his fearful fighting pæan.

I dunno about the range thing. I've seen a lot of formats that force you to fight in close and I don't like it being a constant restriction, since the game can be fun while allowing some range too. While it can be fun to trade blows with a hand on the barrier I don't see evidence of that being the way folks used the barrier originally.
Drefan- really watch what you and Andy were doing in the fight. There's a span around 45 seconds in when you pushed your guard to your right, yet all of his blows were coming straight or from the opposite side. Changing your stance up might give you better lateral movement. Notice how far around your haft his head bends?
