Michael of Buslinthorpe, another review

Post by Glaukos the Athenian »

This is a bit late in coming, but better late than never.

I recenlty received two items from Michel.

one is a "bottel" but shaped like a miniature wineskin. We got the shape from the movie "Clash of Titans". Michael got the shape just right and the size (a bit more than 2 wine bottle capacity) is enough to dink and share.
Awesome work. Now I need to get him to build an ice pocket inside to keep the wine cold.....

The second is one his his excellent gorgets. Still now I have seen nothing better out there. But this time we added a twist, as he was able to customize mine to add the little tab for neck protection of Greek armour (usually part of a linothorax) into the gorget.
Excellent again.

Great quality stuff, great quality/value ratio, and a friendly merchant approach with excellent communication.

Not the first and not the last time I'll be asking him to make me stuff. :)

I was looking for a new goret pattern with more protection. That is a nice design. 8) I wonder how it would come out in 16 g. stainless?

I think the version without the extra bit in the rear top would translate pretty well. It isn't based on anything historical- it's actually based on how a hockey collar fits!

The bit in the back is a characteristic of the Linothorax armour and it was integral with it.

It adds a little extra coverage for the back of the neck, but mostly it screams "Greek amour" which is why I asked Michael to modify his standard gorget. :)

The best I can say about Michael's gorgets is that while you are fighting you simply don't notice that they are there. They look good too mind you, but I love the fact that they are so comfortable.
In fact, once I get my breastplate and I can fine tune the dimensions to perfection, I intend to ask him to make me another one in the greek style (2 is one, and 1 is none, as I learned from a Navy SEAL once)

Cheers
