allemaine collar anyone?

Post by Gryndar »

Hi guys, I've got a request for y'all... one of the guys in my sword group has a bad rotator cuff and he wants me to make a gorget and shoulder cop type protector for him and I think an allemaine (sp) collar would do the trick. the trouble is, I cant seem to find a pic of one anywhere, and I've been searching the net for the whole weekend. Does anyone have a pic or a link to one so I can show him what I have in mind?

I can't think of any other examples off hand, but here's the one Mercenary's Tailor produces...

Wade Allen has some excellent pictures of later period gorgets at http://www.allenantiques.com/Armour-Gor ... ction.html

May not be quite what you are looking for in entirety, but as far as articulating the neck goes I believe these are some of the best quality pictures out there.

Got some pictures of almain collars somewhere, will try to dig them up...

The thread is worth reading and has many more pictures, though alas some of them appear to be broken.

Gryn, looks like spelling may have been your trouble. Almain collar.

Almain Collar in a German harness. Dark pic, rather small.

Living History Library discussion on one.

LHL Discussion, w/Pics. Decent view of several components, and an interior shot, and detail view. Same as Sathanas, oops.

Lousy pic, from early colonial fort museum, pic dominated by breastplate and barred burgonet. Maybe you can glean a detail you need from this.

Center plate from an Almain, auctioned by Bonham. Several other images of miscellaneous armor pieces, with the prices they went for.

Anyway, that's what I found before the matches decayed about page three of Google into hits on 'Almain Rivet.'
