Charity Tournament Info!

Post by DELETEMYACCOUNT »

Alright y'all! Pennsic is closing fast and it's time to start getting people fired up for the charity tournament we hold every year for breast cancer research. For those of you that know, get your asses out there and fight! For those of you that arent familiar, take a moment and read this. It's important.
This year at Pennsic there's gonna be a tournament held during war week. I've requested wednesday of war week, after 6 pm. The way the tournament works is pretty simple. You pony up $5 donation, all of which goes to the Susan G Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. You get placed in a pit with other guys. There's usually 4 pits going on, and they're run like a bear pit. Winner stays, loser gets back in line. Each time you go to fight you draw a card with a weapon style on it. That's what you use for that fight against whatever weapons style your opponent drew. No shields, so it's a good idea if you bring a pair of gauntlets. We fight for a period of time and your wins are counted up. The ones with the most wins in each pit fight against the winners of the other pits until two remain. Then they fight for the overall win.
This is a hard fought tournament with amazing displays of prowess every year. And you wont find a better charity to support. I mean, who doesnt like boobies?
People are also welcome to contribute even if they dont fight in the tournament. heck, we arent shy about soliciting funds for this cause at all. So come out, fight, spectate, whatever. Bring your money and give it to us for this most important of causes so we can all have a hand in defeating this enemy.
Last years tournament conflicting with some other cool stuff scheduling wise because some douchebag king bumped us off our choice time. O mighty scheduling guy, please lets not let that happen this year! This is a worthy endeavor and made better by the people that participate.
Thanks y'all, we're gonna have a good time this year.

Pennsic is lookiing like a dismal prospect (again :? ), are you cashiering this, and is it a prize fight? - opps a genteel tournament with momentos for those who acquitted themselves well

There are a number of ways you and everyone else interested can help. You can donate money. People that fight in this tournament are asked to donate a minimum of $5 but many come in with more. We've had people collect from folks that couldnt make pennsic but wanted to contribute anyway.
You can donate items to be auctioned off. Last year we had many contributions from generous people that went for some pretty good amounts, all donated to the Susan G Komen foundation for breast cancer research.
You can show up on the day of the tourney and help water fighters, you can come work the crowd for more donations, you can maybe run a pit of fighters to help out, you could come cook hotdogs on our grill for hungry fighters and watchers.
Lots of ways to make a difference when it comes to helping this charity.
If you have boobies, or love someone that does, you need to be a part of this.

A great cause and a very challenging tournament: you don't know what style/type you’re fighting with (or against) till you step into the pit. So you tournament circuit types should really enjoy the challenge and the change of pace.

Like Animal said all you need to bring is a set of gauntlets. There are no basket hilted weapons or shields. The Tuchux supply a huge pile of weapons for you to pick from. Of course you could bring your own weapons to use or to throw in the pile as well if you feel like helping out that way.

hmm .. one wonders if a betting blanket (with a % going to the donation kitty) would be do-able? got some good odds makers around I'd suspect.

As long as people show up and contribute that's fine by me! I really think this year is gonna be good. Lots of people have been giving me the heads up that they're gonna come out and I think it's gonna be a great time for all.

Due to the recent tragic loss in Atlantia of Duchess Arielle the Golden, the Tuchux will be dedicating the charity tournament to her honor and memory this year. Please come out and show your support for a wonderful lady and help us fight this enemy so that in the future losses like this are a thing of the past.

Animal, I have wanted to do this this year, but some tennis elbow issues on the left arm are going to leave me only able to fight single hand weapon on this - will this be a problem if I draw something else?

you are liable to fight with two handed weapons at least as much as single handed weapons. However, if you find you cant fight, then you can come out and donate and support other fighters by being there. It's all good.

Animal, or actually anyone who has fought in these in the past. What exactly are the rules. Have been curious to fight in this, but usually something has come up. But between Arielle, and just now realizing this started for Talia, who I knew when I lived in Atlantia, I definetly want to make this a normal occurence.

Also, if your taking fighter type donations. I can bring some shields of mine to donate for auction or whatever. I have realized I have like 8 shields lying around, since I change stuff a lot, and would like to also donate them to the cause.

I will have them ready to go, so whoever gets them, can use them on thursday if they want. Will have at least one centergrip oval, one centergrip rectangle and one or two strapped heaters. Will also just spray paint the outside, since most have my arms in some way on them. So if want me to do a specific color, let me know.

Thanks
Finn

:) Yeah, I should of been more clear on it.

I know there is grappling and such. Was looking for clarification on that kind of stuff.

No biggie though, will just show up, and I am sure everything will be explained there. :)

Sir Finn,

As the Gratious Nissian Maxmia mentioned..There is no such thing as grappling at an SCA event... it doesn't exist! but sometimes you get "bumped".. it happens... if you are opposed to being bumped a bit, give a 5$ donation and sit and watch.. I guarentee is will be a specticle.

Animal... I won't be there for war week :( but will be there for war week.. I'll call ya to make arrangements.

Amost the most fun you can have with your cloths on... is a BLAST folks!!!

Hiyas Finn! Rules are pretty simple. You form into 4 pits. Each pit competes within itself until the time is up. It's a simple bear pit, wounds arent retained, keep track of your wins with a hash mark on your sticker.
At the end of time, the winners of each pit contest till it's down to two, then they face off for the win.
Each weapon form is on a card that you pick from before each bout. Whatever is on the card, you use. No shields. Two handed weapons or sincle handed weapons only.
It's a good time and tests your heart as much as it tests your skill.
As for shields, I'm not sure how we're taking donations this year. I'm in a real diminished capacity due to recent surgery so I would say to wait and see until that day for a ruling. I wish I could do better for you on that but at this point my head is full of doctors appointments and cardiac rehab stuff. Sorry.
Good news is my doctor says my heart is now in better shape than his. :)
Thanks for coming out people, there are some real good things going on and some real fine ladies being celebrated here.

No problem Animal, and glad to hear your getting better.

Will just prep em up and spray paint em black, since its an easy color to deal with. And looking forward to it. I always hear Graedwyn and his guys say how much fun they have. :)
