trabharnisch or "trotting armor"

Post by woodwose »

anyone hear of this sort of armor or know where I can find some pictures of it? I found a referance and drawing of it in the Landsknechts men-at-arms book and I'm thinking I like the looks of it.. so I'd like to at least find something more detailed than this drawing. In the book it tells a bit about the armor but nothing helpfull other than that it's a later form of 'Maximilian' armor.
if anyone has any info about it I'll be most greatful..
thanks,

*bump*

it looks like it might just be half armor with vertical flutes and somewhat fitted tassets... but I'm still not sure.. still haven't found any other pics that look much like it.. maybe there's a lot of artistic license with the drawing in this book.. wouldn't suprise me since i just noticed the gauntlets have no articulation.. I'll scan the drawing in this book.. maybe someone else has seen something like it

here's a scan of the drawing I have...

Well www.landsknecht.com has a lot of links to landsknecht armour and weapons. I think the armour your describing is a munition type or grade of armour. Though its does translate into trotting armour so maybe is was used for fighting on horseback. But that wouldnt make sense being that the pikemen ruled this era. But i think its munition armour
