War Practice was a HOOT!

Post by DELETEMYACCOUNT »

Just like the title says folks. Just got home, got Conor's monkeybutt in the tub and sat down to write this. I had a GREAT time.
Me and about half my clan rolled in about an hour before dark Friday, having had trailer issues and delaying our departure. I'm proud to say that inside of 20 minutes we had the 16ft ger up and one of the nine footers started. Within an hour of that we had both 9 foot gers, the Tschum and the ez up put together and liveable.
The next day I awoke to rain. Big deal. It's war practice. It's GONNA rain.
So I get up and start to put my shit on when I see that the wenches already have breakfast on and they're already burning me some bacon. I likes it crispy. Flaccid bacon is just gross.
So I get a cup of coffe the way I like it handed to me as I sit down in the common area. Followed shortly by crispy bacon and fried potatoes the way I like them.
Did I mention these wenches are GOOD?
Anyway, we get padded up and head down to the field. I got a brand new guy that needs to authorize and a wench for a CA auth too. Thanks to my friends of many years Kadan and Aeleric for doing the fight with us. We needed someone to fight my guy so I volunteered. Might as well, I'm standing right there. Everything is fine. My guy has studied up and knows the answers. So, we spar a bit. No worries, he's calling out where I'm hitting him, he pegged me, so he showed he could swing. Then they said do this one for real.
Ok, I fired for his left thigh, forgetting for that moment that he's a lefty.
Yup.
Right in the dick.
Broke his cup too, but I SWEAR I wasnt swinging that hard! Must be the 'having a healthy shoulder for a change' thing.
Anyway, he passed and was jazzed as hell to get out and fight, thanks again guys.
My new wench passes her test too and sure enough was the only combat archer on our side all day. So if you Aethelmarc guys got pegged with an arrow this weekend, that was a Weretiger wench named Kayah. She did real well.
The fighting was real clean as far as I was concerned. I didnt have to say anything to anyone about blows, it was real stout, but I kinda like it that way.
I'll let others chime on on the overall outcomes. I was just happy to be on my feet in armor standing among men.
That evening we had the pleasure of the company of Nissan and Grettr from Clovenshield. We sat in the tschum and visited and had a real good time.
I of course, had just taken a flexeril so I was higher than giraffe pussy but I still managed to enjoy my evening. Hope they did too. They were honored guests.
This morning I wake up and half our camp is already down and in the trailer. I get up and start getting the big ger down and next thing I know we're visiting with Straum and Bjarki. Gee fellas, next time show up when we got tents up and seats out! We'll treat you better, I promise!
Safe trip home and a great event. If you missed it you suck :)

Nice account Animal. Also, I see you have a talent for images...
I would love to hear stories told by you some time.

Maybe you should start an Epic poem/tale of the story of the Tuchux (I am serious) I don't think there is anyone more qualified, from knowledge, and from the above for poetic skill.....

That was my favorite quote as well. Don't think my brain was ever forced to think of a giraffe like that before.

Also kudos to the guy for taking a cup smashing blow and keeping on fighting. Atleast he has a good story :).

You betcha... War practice was a riot and kinda ironic. I had gotten to the field and was going to look up Animal before things got rolling. I didn't get a chance to find him THEN... I did however run into him during the bridge battle scenario when I looked down and saw this guy I knew with a sword over his head... YEP it was Animal..
Cleared a path for him to get out of the bridge and tracked him down during a break.. :D

As an aside.. Dude the dogs rocked yesterday.. I was having a blast facing them all day long.. One of my new guys was going out of his way to run into the dawgs just so he could get some hardcore stickin time.

Got 360 enveloped by the tuchux a couple of times. That was fun. In a painful and humbling kinda way.

Way good fighting. Give me the open field battles anytime over bridge engagements.
Leave the SCA better than you found it. Fight alot of cool people along the way.

Some of the tuchux need to teach a casting class. that aluminum stuff looked sweet.
There were a few armour problems doing inspection mostly due to leather wearing down or not being properly hardend as well as a few people with out proper handprotection behind the shields.
This is a note to all of you check your Gear blown rivets, soft leather, and bad straps are a real pain.

When you get your file developed you can elect to have your pictures put on a disc (as well as on negatives) in JPEG format so you can post pictures here and appease Nissan.

Hey they actually caught a pic of me out there .. thought I was just running in stealth mode to much ... proof positive I actually do go to events! (which one of these things does not look like the other .. which one just doesn't .. err well that's a matter of opinion ..)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/qof/3542883681/in/set-72157618426913988/

and here:

Had a helluva fun time over the weekend! Between the field battles and the give/take of the bridge battles! Quality stick time and great fun working with Tuchux, East Kingdom and Clovenshield to bring a good fight to AE troops.

P.S. getting to see the Weretiger crew the following mornin' before hitting the road was an extra bonus ... we were a bit too much in our cups to try and stagger down Sat. eve but getting to play with Connor again in the morning and seeing Dove's medicine lodge was a good cap to the weekend.

Sounds like AWP was a great event, per usual. Maybe we'll be able to make it out with the peanut next year!

The only problem I've ever had at AWP is not having enough clothes. The last time I went it got SO cold that I wore literally every stitch of clothing I had with me to bed, curled up with Laurenz, and I was STILL cold. Still don't know how I didn't choke myself on my liripipe hood! :-)

Saturday night did get cold. I end up going to bed and wake up sometime in the middle of the night with a Conor burrito inbetween me and Ratty on the air mattress. It wouldnt have been bad but the little shit was pushing me off the side of the bed.

It was actually quite nice in the tschum. Dove had a fire going and Doji the white scar had a steady supply of twigs and small sticks for the fire. Being a huge fan of gers I wasnt sure when Dove approached me about making a tschum. I gotta admit though it's a comfy house and awesome to look at.

Was a blast as usual, and was fun fighting with Clovenshield at the end, when we did the gate fights, when everyone else headed off.

Plus, got to fight Nissan at the end during pickups, which I hadnt ever done, and was fun. :)

Animal,

Just out of interest, do you have a picture of the tschum? I Googled the term and can't find an appropriate entry. Is it spelled differently? I find temporary dwellings of all kinds very cool, and while I have seen plenty of gers (often referred to as yurts), I have never heard of a tschum.

Thanks

I'm not sure I'm spelling it right but I think I can get a picture of it up here for you. As a reference it's the house of the Mongols that are so far north that they herd and ride reindeer.
http://www.face-music.ch/highaltai/jurte/jurte_en..html
It's spelled Tshum. Sorry, my bad. I'll try and see if we got a pic of his set up but if not here are some for real real ones.

Just realized on this thread that I most likely ran into some of ya and didn't realize it. Wasn't wearing my archive 'flap' (belt favor with space for ID cards and eye drops). Did meet Domnall though ... at time didn't realize it .. we'd just shown up and I was armouring up behind the Cleftlands and AE Royal sunshades .. I was the 'lil' boy blue' with the x-chair. Where all were the rest of ya at?

I was on the 'bad boy' side with Clovenshield, the Tuchux and a batch of Master Feral's lads along with a good handfull of Midrealmers. Alas, weren't able to stay into the wee hours of the night and thus did't get to the Weretiger clan's good crash spot until the morning drive out.
