SCA rattan roman gladius (with scabbard) SOLD
This roman gladius for SCA combat is made from hardwood pieces epoxied to a solid rattan handle. The whole handle has been coated with epoxy to give additional strength, and then sanded to give a nice finish.
The brown paint used on this is for industrial use, but is common and easy to get at Home Depot. I will give identifying #'s in case the buyer wants to buy some in order to do touch-ups. As usual, this Atzinger weapon has not been treated with a clear coat in order to facilitate ease in touching up the paint job to keep the weapon looking new.
This gladius comes with a custom Roman-style scabbard (NOT PICTURED) made in whatever colors the buyer chooses. While sheathed it will look totally bad-ass and more historically accurate than almost any Roman-era rattan weapons anywhere.
The price is $145

Am I reading correctly that all that is holding the rattan to the hilt is epoxy? I ask only because that would seem to me to be a possible break point.

If I understand it right, the blade and grip are all one piece of rattan. The brown hardwood bits are epoxied on to the rattan.

The handle and blade are one piece. The spheres are hardwood and were drilled out and slipped over the rattan handle.
The handle was built back up using wood filler, then sanded into the shape you see. Then the handle and the spheres were coated with epoxy. This sword has a lower chance of breaking at the guard than any rattan sword fitted with aluminum hardware because everything has been coated with epoxy. The blade is completely untreated, straight rattan.

Fascinating, it sounds really solid, and I would love to be able to buy it, but it's simply not an option.
So instead, I'm bumping this for you. Thanks for working in the Roman age, I hope this sells, so you'll be willing to do so again.
