Re: Looking for hammers.

I've got a few of the Peddinhhaus hammers that are fairly new (2-3 years) and have been verry happy with them. However im moving into them from ground down Harbor Freight ball peins, so I'm easily impressed.

Re: Looking for Quotes on a Burgonet (w/ SCA Bar Grill) & Go

I cannot take on any morew work right now, But I will say that the final finish doesn't effect the price as much as you might think. I would be about 3 hours work from a satin finish to a top end bright finish, while details like ropeing edges and properly shapeing the brim and cheek pieces can be d...

I could do it, I'm farmiliar and have done a few. My price would be $150 and turn around would be 4-6 weeks. I'll make sure all the peices are sanded out for the powder coat before final assembly.

Re: New to TIG, How too?

I always liked the thumb dial better than the foot pedal, I also like the option of a second pass over the weld without a rod to clean up and smooth out the weld. If your rod is freezing the puddle then you are either welding too cold or using too thick of a rod. Stick with it and practice, I always...

Start larger than you need, and keep track of what you trim off. Take those trimmings off of the origional pattern and you're closer for next time.

Re: bascinet splitvisor "mausehelm"

There was a touch of drama on the Team America FB page the other day about a 14g mild helm. Injury occured while using one. From my understanding, the injury was from a haft contacting a neck due to an ill fitted helmet, but the consensus was that a 14g mild helm was going to end poorly, even if fi...

Re: Wisby gauntlet musing/question

I use high quality elk skin work gloves for durability and fit, I've found that loose fitting gloves alow the finger plates to float out of position. I also pad between the leathers and the gloves. I only stitch at the finger tip and about 1/2" on each side of the second nuckle. Seems to work well f...

Re: Strapping and padding an SCA rapier helm

One thing to remember is that you will never have complete 100% coverage in every possible situation. Fencing masks don't cover every possible angle a blade can get into either, But some marshals seem to think a fencing helm should offer that 100% coverage. Think about safety and provide as much or ...

Re: Strapping and padding an SCA rapier helm

These helmets are not well made, They are however comercially available. The lack of shape in the perf plate is an issue while trying to protect the underside of the chin and throat. The later period helms make a better conversion base such as the Burgonet's, close helms, and Armet's, howevwer they ...

Re: Strapping and padding an SCA rapier helm

Glue is a bad idea, The suspension should be riveted or sewn in (Preferably riveted) And definately go with a drape for that one, It doesn't provide any protection for a rising shot into the face, and will freak out the marshals. I would sugjest talking with some of the armoured combatants in your a...
