"Archer knees" for Late 15c armor
I'm working on a late 15th century kit for SCA fighting, and I'm having issues with the legs. I'd like to use hose with only knee armor, but can't figure out how to suspend them without cuisses.
What kind of clothing should I use, and how do I make sure it will hold up my knees?

Doing some research about how to hang a late 15c sword. Anyone have any good references before I start pouring through all the books in my library for images?

Re: Brigandine legs?
Let's also make sure we distinguish between "brigandine" (as an adjective) construction, eg, small or narrow overlapping plates riveted to a textile cover, and a fully shaped plate limb defense that just happens to be covered with fabric or leather. In the Spanish suit with the matching body armor,...

Re: Brigandine legs?
I've debated 14c and Landsknecht kits heavily. Right now I'm researching 15c because it's been one of my dream kits forever. If I'm going to have to put something together, I'm trying to see if I can make it work with the new limitations.

Re: Brigandine legs?
So it all comes down to this question.
I'm trying to design a new kit that's much lighter weight for my back injury. I'm thinking 15c and trying to avoid steel legs. Could I get away with fabric-covered plastic legs? Or is it too rare to be plausible?

What do you think of the red leg armor on the figure in the front left? It looks like patterned fabric perhaps. https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/asset/saint-vincent-at-the-stake/cwHvAy1WzqQQ2Q?hl=en&ms=%7B%22x%22%3A0.23648735411109406%2C%22y%22%3A0.6298930860445056%2C%22z%22%3A9.9999914...

Brigandine legs?
I've seen velvet or suede covered armor in the 15th century for body, shoulders, and helms, but were there ever any legs of this style?

Leather headware - seeking information
I'm looking for information and documentation for leather headware. I was curious originally by the leather coifs that some landsknecht reenactors wear, but I'm not finding much information for that. Are these accurate? Do we have any extant pieces? Are there other types of leather headware from oth...

I've done that, but unfortunately can't find much in the way of how it was constructed except in the reproductions.
Is there a gusset on the bottom or sides? What type of stitching is done? Those are the things I'm trying to figure out.

LF rapier scabbard throat and chape
Does anyone have any good places to buy a throat and chape to put on a rapier scabbard?
I've sewn the scabbard, and now just need the metal bits. I have local people who might be able to make it. I just want to see if there are any premade parts first.

Re: looking for a early roman kit
I recommend wearing either a lorica hamata (mail) or squamata (scale). The segmentata has too many fiddly bits that can easily break through SCA fighting, and the shoulders get in the way of our style of swordplay. I fight in a lorica hamata, doing a 50s BCE Gaulish kit, and have found that the extr...

Depending on how "accurate" you want to go, take a look at the movie. In the scene where Pippin comes to find Gandalf, he pulls his helmet off and throws it when the Nazgul attacks. You might be able to see inside there.
