get two pieces of 1/4 inch oak 4x8 sheets, get some ratchet straps, titebond II, and glue the sheets together and ratchet them around something, (i use a keg) so they bend to a curve to your desire without splitting... let dry, cut pattern, router edges, strap, cover, paint, fight! cost you about $40

best i found was 3,000 to 3,500 new stainless... and thats cause i might be bringing him 2 more suits from other new jousters... and he's willing to piece it out as he builds...
and about half that used...

just rough ideas, we use a wooden ecranche, (shield) hope to do tourneys soon, but for now we do special programs for schools and such...
so i wouldnt need anything more than 16g minus the helmet.
