How a man shall be armed: New video for your consideration.

Hi guys.

I've recently made a video on how a man shall be armed, very simplified of course. If you have 3 minutes, please do check it out, and let me know what you think, as I will probably be making more in future.

Thanks, and all the best.

Its one of the things I like about German over Italian armours. They look a lot less human, almost alien in form.

Re: Some Quick Questions!

1: Steel isn't so much a raw material in the medieval period. It is rather more of a modification to iron to make it stronger and harder. Also, the quality of steel varied by area, period, item and pricetag. Swords were steel for a long time before most armour was, and the Italians were working spri...

Re: Is full harness an advantage or disadvantage on foot?

Having been fighting in a full face helm recently, I can also vouch for the fact that intimidation makes fighting a lot easier. I wish I'd had a helm cam to capture some of the concerned faces people pull when they can't see the face of the person attacking them. Historical evidence also shows there...

Re: Is full harness an advantage or disadvantage on foot?

Think of all the little bruises you get when you aren't wearing full armour. I got five on my leading arm last weekend, because I left my arm armour at home. Then you imagine that each of those bruises had intent to kill behind them.

Give me full plate any day.

Re: How a Man Shall Be Armed, a Video Essay of the 14c Harne

In the 15th century there is a fashion in lots of places for many doublets to be open at the front. I find it unlikely that an arming doublet would be that open, but its good reason to believe a 15th century petticote could be left open at the front.

The design is based on a combination of german Armets, including various examples from Conrad Laib. Here are some more photos, including one with the wrapper. I didn't wear it this weekend, as we were mostly practicing melee riding and cavalry charges. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/7...

Now that my jousting helmet is finished, I can share my armour as it currently stands. Still need to do some work on it, mainly leather sewing, but also adding an aventail to the german armet:

Hey everyone. I've posted this in Interpretive recreation, but as its also combat oriented, thought I'd cross post it here. The cavalry group I ride with have just updated our website. Have a look, especially if you're into armour, horses or combat: There's lots of photos and a link to our Facebook ...

Re: Pheonix Dawn COP: Lanterns and Antlers!

No offense but I dislike the horns. It takes the armour from elaborate but kick ass into elaborate, unwieldy and ridiculous. The great thing about the renaissance parade armours is that for the most part they were still functional battle armours, linking the wearers to great warriors of the past. Pu...

Switch to 16th century heroic armour. Then you can have a muscled cuirass made out of spring steel.

Whenever I'm going anywhere I may get a chance to use them I take practice daggers with me. Small and portable, most likely to be useful in everyday life, and most difficult to master as a discipline.

Simply because I don't yet own one that I'm happy with. I was offered several to try, but I'm a firm believer that if something doesn't fit exactly it's ...

Re: 2012...Show us your kits

Thanks Gerhard. Strangely, the lack of plate on the shoulders didn't actually cause any problems in this instance. Of course, the area is very small, and a difficult one to hit in this kind of combat. The lack of leg armour caused a slight pain, but no bruising, and the lack of Bevor caused a split ...

Like the kit Johnameyer. A great starting kit, especially as you made it all yourself. Isabella's posture comment holds water I think. Standing confidently will make a good kit stand out more, as it fulfills the image of a heroic knight that little bit more. A quick note on the cuirass you've made (...

The thing about it for me is that he writes in a self aggrandizing tone, which is fine if it were an advert for his school. It's expected. The fact that he also repeatedly and needlessly insults 99% of the people that might be interested in learning more makes it seem less like an advert though, and...

What he says has elements of truth in it, but it's the way he says it that makes people dislike him, and ruins his arguments for anyone who would be willing to support him otherwise.

If asked for my "armchair quarterback" opinion (which I assume is backseat driving but for sports), The US team is made of some fierce individuals but needs to learn to fight as a team.
