Re: Cian's Lantern Instructions

As far as I know there are no sources of rawhide or pigs bladder beeing used in lanterns before 1700, it does however look good and I believe that it is plausible that it was used.
Remember that the wood and rawhide constructions most likely has been destroyed over time if they existed.

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?

Gentlemen. I would like to address the question of the Original Poster. This is purely my opinion, and is not meant as some kind of blanket statement from my Brothers. Combat with BoTN and HMB style rules, and equipment has no business EVER EVER EVER being a part of the SCA. 1. There is NO WAY to m...

Re: Concussions and CTE

I used to do inquries concerning work related injuries and benefits for the Swedish social services agency, I have seen quite a few Post Commotio 'After Concussion' cases were a simple concussion has alterd the life of the person involved. Concussions are not to be taken lightly.

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?

Before we stray a bit to far from the subject here are my thoughts on what might happen possible areas were the SCA might change and pick up few things. In general I do not see the need for a BoTN style combat within the SCA, it is not my cup of tea, I like the heavy fighting game as we have, with t...

Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?

Ibelieve that SCA fighting will change after the Battle of the Nations, I am however not sure of how. It has shown that live steel fighting can be done reasonably safe, it has shown that full body targeting except knees, neck and some other places work, it has shown that there are alternatives to a ...

Now Poland vs Italy
Poland won the first fight, drove the Italians to the ground. Headbuts were used by a polish fighter. They seem to have worked.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

Belorussia vs Russia, seems to have been serious hating and beating each other up. One guy left the field with some kind of injury to face, nose, mouth. Dropped his helmet on the field after the fight in the list and appeard to be injured.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

I think that the "kill from behind" does install a bit more of the 360 degree awerness. Regardless of weather one likes it or not. But it does teach one to keep eyes open and allows for safe engagement from behind.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

You need to remember that Sambo is part of the Russian national sport that most youths appear to train at one time or another. A form of wrestling/ close combat that looks a lot like judo.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

I did stop to watch the Israeli - Baltic guy fight since at least one of the combatants were unable to defend themself. Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

A few observations. It is their game and they are good at it. The cardio and stamina of the guys from Russia, Poland, Ukraine seems to be really, really good. The wrestling skills seems to be important, punching with shield as well. Most common shot seems to be some version of the snap against helme...

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team

Fights according to the rules are 3 90 second bouts, first hand and a half, then sword and shield, then buckler, "good" strikes in the kill zone are scored.

Seen some good fights and some bad, most participants seems to be decently skilled, but the cardio in the format and the weather seems to be taking its toll on skill.

Some traditional woodworking skills

I found this clip on the web via http://perkelesblog.blogspot.com/, it is apparently from Finland aka Barony of Aarnimätsä I belive from 1920-1940 of an old man doing traditional woodworking with a knife, an axe and perhaps a saw. In black and white with no sound but I belive the skill speaks for it...
