If they fuck up, are reported, and CAUGHT... then we yank their inspection, and they report to Marshal's Court after the battle. IF they are caught. This isnt friggin soccer ... you dont get a "yellow card". If someone is UNSAFE on the Field it is the Marshal's RESPONSIBILITY to pull that persons c...

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory

Regarding "you get what you pay for": I'm surprised that more armorers don't follow the model of Rough from the Hammer and sell rough pieces or kits. The armorer does just the cutting and shaping; the customer does polishing, strapping, assembling, etc. The customer pays the armorer to do only the ...

Re: Plastic shields

The Icefalcon Kydex shields are very durable, very light and because of the rounded edge, the Earl Marshal of the East said that you aren't required to edge the shield.
That makes buying a shield that is centergrip more inviting for sure.

Re: An Unfortunate Review of James River Armory

When pricing things on the internet, there is a  :?: that should pop up anytime you've found a price that is 1/3 cheaper then what the average prices are for the same item. $425 for legs, arms, a gorget, all to be sized and dyed and shipped across the country is a steal of a deal. I get the po...

I really wish people would stop recommending AB to newbies. Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

I did some inspections at Pennsic this year. It is easy to determine if a tip needs to be "refoamed" and in all of the cases where we pointed out that the tip needed to be refoamed, the fighter took his weapon and within 10-15 minutes was able to have the tip reinspected where it was passed. This is...

Didn't you post on FB a few weeks back that you were having spear issues? I was going to suggest talking to master feral who has a cool setup to work on your spear stuff. Spear in field battles have to be aggressive - the time it takes you to put people down also is the ticking on them closing in on...

if you're thinking EK unbelt triad- drop the spear.
work 3 vs. 3 (triad on triad)
for fun switch guys up in each team if you've only got 2 triads.
if you've got an odd number like 5 or 7, triad attacks the 2 or the 4.

15 second time limits.

video if possible. discuss strategy after.

1.25 inches at the narrowest.
so for the waster you might end up with a stick that if count jonathan is correct with the weight- may end up being heavier then list legal anyway, so take that into account as well as the blade dimensions.

There is also plenty of marshalls that call things flat like lower "J Hook" shows that are in fact not flat. Probably not something that would be effective outside of our stick tag game but still by the striking surface hitting where it should be with sufficient force, it is deemed a legal and accep...

Corollary question: If someone is going to hop around on one leg, anyone have a problem with simply corkscrewing outside his range until he tumbles? Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

Especially because people who don't fight against buckler much get aggressive and sloppy, a well timed offside thrust stops alot of people. Don't pull it out too often as its hard to recover from. I was taught not to block with the sword too often. Again with the buckler being able to intercept shot...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I fought mostly buckler tonight. I like the ability to sweep a shot under the buckler to the offside leg when they go for a high wrap. I think the Buckler in the face thing could only be effective (here in the east) if you're moving laterally towards stepping diagonally and it gives you another step...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I've been fighting with buckler on occasion and I've found that most people who don't fight buckler fighters throw exaggerated shots, either high buckler side wraps or low shots. It makes easy to block and counterattack. Move your feet and don't stand around. Buckler on Buckler is fun. Make sure you...

Learn to shoot OVER and around and between shieldmen. It sounds like a nice gesture that you pop up on the front and get all the wiggle room you need but it doesn't work that way all the time. As a spearman/commander, getting archers to get on the line or just behind it to shoot is a huge pain in th...
