Re: My lessons on the SCA battlefield.

A friend taught me a valuable lesson regarding archery and marshals in the way. Treat them like a linesman in hockey; don't deliberately shoot them, but if you can shoot past them take the shot. If they're in the way and get hit, they'll move. (My friend was apparently shot 17 times at a GW when he ...

Re: How PE3408 resin (siloflex) is made

I can get Siloquivalent pipe in 20' straight lengths in Vancouver BC. Really cheap too. I think I paid $0.40 / foot last time I ordered. Contact waterworks wholesalers, or the like. You're looking for "Geopipe" or "Poly drop pipe". It's often used in geothermal systems, as it's hard to push a coiled...

Re: Combat archery techniques and advice?

Slow to reply, I may miss some points. That fellow I eyeslotted a few times was fairly new to war fighting. I was using the situation as a bit of a teaching opportunity. They were in a defensive position inside the castle, and a charge out to get me wasn't really an option. They did already have 3 a...

Re: Combat archery techniques and advice?

Sometimes that courtesy is there, but goes unseen. I don't draw attention to the hundreds of "easy kills" I pass up in a battle to take the more important shots, or more challenging ones. It has been said that an archer won't hit the fighter who is watching him; that's one of my favorites. Arrow jus...

Re: Combat archery techniques and advice?

For your dividers in your quiver, use the clear plastic "fluorescent tube covers" from Home Depot. Golf tubes are too small in diameter. Lose the back quiver, they're generally too slow to draw from, too easy to dump if you bend over, or too deep to draw the arrow from. On the field my primary targe...

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

The issue I take is that if nothing is done to correct the equipment because of several failures, there is a definite bias and hipocrisy in the system. After the Pennsic incident, it was determined that even foam was dangerous, and was not allowed to enter more than 1/2" into a grille. Eve _feather_...

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

Anyone remember what happened at Pennsic a few years ago? Tubular arrow, overly thick and squishy foam. Foam penetrated the eyeslot and struck the eye (of a friend of mine). What happened? Short term, I believe all arrows were pulled from the field until their diameter was increased. Long term, Tens...

You may wish to consult with your KEM or KCAM before dropping money on one. It appears that they may not be permitted in the Middle. It depends on if your Kingdom defines them as a "stone bow". Many do.

Sidewraps on shafted arrow heads. The Pennsic helm/foam penetration was from a tube arrow with too much squishy foam.

The justification I got from one local madu-user was that it wasn't the african horn weapon, but rather he's trying to emulate a sword in hand with a buckler (I don't have the exact reference from the period manual he was using). I've been using plastidip on my arrowheads for about 3 years now. Most have not needed any repair. When I was first testing it, I was "whipping" the head against a bare sheet metal edge. There were a few scuffs, but no cuts. For more frequent impacts, I wonder if wrapping the sword in cloth may help...

How about the obvious reason it's not allowed. Mundane law.

Willful damage of private property. Accidents happen, stuff wears out and needs repair / replacing. Deliberately breaking someone's stuff for whatever reason is wrong.

Or, Count Johnathan, are we invited into your camp to break your stuff?

Sounds like the 2" tip needs a 1/8 thick sidewrap, or an apd taped to the front, just in case.
