Since it's a Gladiator version of the garment, would it be more prudent just to wear a Balteus over top of the garment and just make the Subligaculum over sized to accommodate for the width of the Balteus?

Tablet woven bands can be made with a wide variety of patterns and color combinations. If you want to accent your tunic I certainly recommend it as a way to do so!

I just read this book and found it thoroughly entertaining. It deals with the Spartacus rebellion specifically, but it gives a good summary of Gladiator life as well!
