Re: Illusion Armouring - taking orders / contact ?
They're honest about their waiting list, and the home page always has the latest estimated completion date, but I can't get it to load right now... I've bought three items from them. Two were in-stock items (a pair of gauntlets and a late-period gorget), and while the email communication is indeed s...

Re: Stainless Steel, Clam Shell Gauntlets
Illusion Armoring have a couple pair of their stainless clamshells in stock: http://www.illusionarmoring.com/Instock.html I fought for years in the mild steel version of these and can vouch for them. The thumb's not fully enclosed, but overlaps properly for complete coverage. I never got hurt in the...

Re: WTB quality inexpensive rapier or cut and thrust
I have heard really good things about Castille Armoury. Website is kind of short on details. I recommend checking out their FB page. http://castillearmory.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/pages/Castille-Armory/203061436404066?fref=ts All of the weapons I'm currently using for rapier and C&T (SCA a...

Re: Looking for Quotes on a Burgonet (w/ SCA Bar Grill) & Go
Some burgonets are designed like close helms: no need for a gorget. Illusion have one like that:
http://www.illusionarmoring.com/BurgBar2.jpg
I had a close helm with that sort of set-up (from Illusion, in fact), and not having to wear a regular gorget was wonderful.

I really like the coronet Master Jurgen did for me. It is exactly what I wanted. It's simple, has nice proportions, is durable and was affordable. http://scametalwork.com/gallery_2014.html My County coronet is from Master Jurgen as well...thoroughly delighted with it. I also wanted a simple design ...

Knotwolf helms always look to me like someone just unearthed them from a peat bog...and that's a compliment! They look so authentic that they make you think, "whoa...they had bargrills in period???"

What William said. You allowed your shield to drift away from the centerline as you advanced to throw that parallel (to the ground) wrap. Some suggestions: Pell work with a specific emphasis on making sure your shield "floats" where you need it to be (usually covering the centerline), regardless of ...

too often, SCA equestrians are off on their own, almost running a separate event apart from the rest. There's often logistical reasons for that, but GW proves that with the necessary effort, equestrian can integrate and contribute to the rest of the club. Absolutely! Hocktide Emprise, an annual eve...

$225 is a jaw-dropping bargain for a helm that nice, IMO. That's a beginner-level price tag for a helm that's SO much better-looking than what most fighters start with.

I just used a regular glove behind my heater for years, then added a very token leather basket when that inane rule came into play. If I was still fighting heavy list, I'd remove it, now that the rule has been modified. In years and years of fighting, I was never once hit in the shield hand...

Re: Sword and dagger in SCA heavy
Musashi wrote at some legth about fighting with "the long and short swords" (katana and wakizashi). It can be an effective pairing in SCA Heavy, too, I'd say. Personally, I prefer two swords of equal (and relatively long) length for my preferred two-sword style, but there's no reason the above pairi...

I am waiting to get bounced for not wearing a gorget in my new helmet at a big event. It's a great bascinet. One of my favorite things about the close helm that was part of my early 16th C. plate rig was the lack of need for a conventional gorget. Comfy! I miss that armor...but if I somehow manage ...
