Re: Long term wear and tear...
Proper physical fitness as a whole will certainly help, as will pre and post combat stretches. To avoid rotator cuff injuries exercise the four muscles that form that system outside of combat. When you train (pell/slow work) do so with heavier weapons than what you fight with while wearing arm/shoul...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
The Tuchux I have met have all been alright guys. Mongrel, how many members to the Tuchux have overall, and what is your method for dealing with guys who fight totally out of control or actively try to hurt someone? The number of Dogs will be different depending on who's currently active and who yo...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
In the Tuchux we have two simple rules
1) Don't be a dick
2) Don't break your toys/friends
Even with the full body/360 degree targeting/grappling/higher calibration/ ZERO minimum armor standard our injuries are no more severe or frequent than those of the SCA.

Re: shield boss material, Leather?
I was actually considering this idea with a slightly altered application. I intend to make a madu and instead of a small metal shield I'm constructing it out of hardened leather. My advice is cut and stitch two bosses one larger than the other. Punch holes for rivets (or stitching) harden each then ...

Turn on a powerful source of light behind you and use your shadow as a gauge. Concentrate on the proper motion of the strike (foot to hip to shoulder to arm to blade) and the proper return as well. When I don't feel like hitting my pell I'll use my bakcyard flood light at night and shadow box(strike...

Re: How would unhardened tooling stand up in SCA
I would make one cautionary note abouu Mongrel's advice. Use a lower temperature ;) You need to get over 167 F, but you do not want to boil the water out of your leather. I set my oven just over 150 and use a thermometer to keep it in the 180 to 200 range. Good call, my oven tends to run cooler tha...

I would rather take a shot to the head in my steel helmet rather than my ACH any day. I have been hit with a crowbar in both and can honestly say the pads in the ACH dont allow enough absorbtion of energy than my brain bucket does

Re: How would unhardened tooling stand up in SCA
in my experience hardening leather after tooling is relatively easy As long as you seriously case the leather beforehand (soak it in a bathtup wrap it in plastic wrap and lay it flat in the fridge overnight) and continue to keep it waterlogged until you're ready to harden it you'll be fine. Once you...

1 open seat to Pennsic (date change)
I'm looking for a person to ride out to Pennsic with me to cut the cost of gas. I've got enough room for a reasonable amount of gear as I have a Ford Explorer, and I'm looking to leave as soon as I sign out at midnight on 30th of July. The return trip is going to be a little funky as I'll be driving...

Im looking for any descriptions or pictures (preferably both) of the weapon(s) in the subject line. How would you use a year off?
I was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my spine about a month ago. I've weighed both sides and decided to take a year off and focus on healing...

best rivets for mild steel srticulated knee cops
I need some suggestions for riveting these cops back together.
