Re: What's the latest best helmet padding available?

Dry foam is weak - 1/2" of even the best oily gel is insufficient in my opinion but 3/4" works but I prefer 1" on the brim/seats of pressure. 1" + 4 opposed chin strap points solid attached, is my recommendation - and and a scrum who knows mercy and honor the same. After a clash, nobody ever said my...

Southern Crusades War: Cats and Dogs Partying Together

Greetings Fellow Archivists, The Southern Crusades War in Atenveldt (held last weekend) was an amazingly fun time this year. Yes, it was hot, dry and rocky but if you are looking for some of the best war fighting the SCA has to offer then this is (one of) the places to find it. You won't hear "My Lo...

See above. I really wonder about people asking for medical advice on the Archive.... Are there any actual doctors / medical professionals on here? I think this is more of the "has anyone gotten back on the field with these sorts of issues" question. I remember a Caiden baron whose proper name escap...

I was wondering if anyone had some good topical links? I'd like to see what is going on across the planet, to the extent that is possible.

Re: The War Shouldn't Be Over in June

Well, here's my tentative plan.

1) Get back in shape.
2) Go to Pennsic and fight for the Middle.
3) Go to the Woods Battle, tell the bog people I am going to the Woods battle.
4) Find a narrow defile near our rez point.
5) Hilarity ensues.

There's really nothing wrong with wanting an exciting and competitive war, one that isn't decided months in advance.

What do the tactics of disparagement say about the wielder?

Re: The War Shouldn't Be Over in June

Falcone One very effective solution I have seen at smaller wars is if one side is getting repeatedly stomped then some knights would cross the field to balance the sides after it was clear one side was dominating. Somebody gets to be the "winner" but the "losing" side doesn't have to suffer a dispar...

Estrella Time!!!

Greetings Fellow Archivists It is time for me to knock the cobwebs off my armor, jog more, and get some weighted lunges in preparation for more epic spear fighting. Re: Training advice for improving force of blows

Work on perfecting your form. Usually, this means getting some Paul time or work with one of the trainers he recommends in his style in your area. A mistake that is usually made is forgetting that attacks are whole body motions. It isn't the arm, it isn't the hip, it isn't the back, it is everything...

Re: Pennsic Battle Schedule

Sharing is caring. I'm perfectly happy with a fair 50/50 CA/non-CA split right down the middle. That said this schedule seems a bit CA-heavy. The Woods is CA-free (which traditionally one of my favorite battles), and the outside bridges on bridge day, but everything else has CA - unless I've misread...

I could see rattan death-from-behind rules being modified to reflect the canonical methods of BoN knock-down. I am interested in the best video of the fighting and willing to pay a reasonable price to do so. I am interested in the specific methods used.

Those were legendary times, and best news is that they are not over. Come to Estrella, where full speed charges, killing from behind, and pez-dispensing thrusts are the norm. I've got to say I think the two inch tips on glass spears has reinvigorated the spear game. Big thanks to whoever made that h...
