Re: Batteredshell’s Cardboard Armour Questions

Well, for durability sake, are you going to resin coat it then or find some way to stiffen it up once it's all said and done?

Re: What do you use to punch holes in your plates?

Not sure about alternatives. The style I use is the handheld version. I think it's the XX. If I'm doing a BUNCH of holes, I chuck it in a bench vise, but I usually just use it one handed. It's heavy but not THAT bad once you get used to it. If you anticipate using it more than 1 hour per week a few ...

Re: What do you use to punch holes in your plates?

Mac, there's other dangers besides exploding bits as well. I almost snapped my wrist drilling a few larger holes... though I do have a stronger drill than most... then there's over drillilng...straight into your leg. lol Whitney punch is really the best option when it can be used. Very hard to hurt ...

Re: What do you use to punch holes in your plates?

I use a Whitney punch. I've had it for almost 20 years. Used it to punch god knows how many rivet holes... used it as a nibbler on a few pierce work guards to bulk out most of the material... good paper weight... Only problem is the throat depth. Even with a punch to do 90% of what you need, you'll ...

I've noticed that you tend to sew towards the steel. Why? It seems like a great way to blunt a needle point and maybe send it skittering into a thumb. Does it really make a difference or is it just however you're comfortable?

How would you go about sharpening them? Just a quick hone with a stone or would you go more in depth with it? I often have the problem of the edge dulling pretty quick... I'm sure 80% of it is user error though...

Look for P90X photos. They're to be taken in 4 sets of 6 and should all be relatively similar from person to person.

Re: Introduction / Greenwich Gauntlet

Welcome! Not a bad start! One thing you can do to improve the flex and fit is by adding some sliding rivets, though that's not necessary for where you are now. Your knuckle riders do look a bit long but that could also be because the lest of the lames need a bit more of a dish which will shorten the...

I don't know. With your eye, I would love to see you make a fantasy piece, the right way. I know 90% of what is out there looks cool but wouldn't function right. It very much addresses it in a very clear and concise way. Thank you! And I was thinking of how the stress risers and compression of the metal moves inside the steel itself.

I too would like to see some sort of stress indicators as the metal moves. I would also like to see "worst" cases and their corresponding fixes for both the simple examples you've shown above and the complex variations you've alluded to.

Theory how? It seems a simple enough procedure at face value, even if it's one that's missed very often. Or would it me more as to how the metal moves with out causing further distortions?
