Re: Gleann Abhann 2015 Fall Crown List

Good list, and no one fighter who is head and shoulders better than the rest. A lot depends on how healthy some of the participants are (most notably Earl Brian, but also Sir Martin). Another monkey wrench is the way the finals is held with 5 rotating weapon styles. This could work in favor of someo...

Re: Meridian Spring Crown List 2014

Ok, let me rephrase the question: how will the list be fought? Double elim? Best 2 out of 3 each round? How many weapon styles do you have to use? Just alternating each fight, or more than 2 styles required? Any required or banned styles?

Re: Meridian Spring Crown List 2014

Would love to see Sir Cona finally win the big one. Of course I would also love to see my good friends Dakyn and Ginevra on the throne, but this is a rough list with a lot of quality contenders. And it's cool to see Duke Orlando in this 36 years after he won his first one.

Sir James 3-1
Earl Loric 4-1
Viscount Caillin 5-1
THL Henry 12-1
THL Mika'il 20--1
THL Inigo 50-1
Lord Aron 50-1
all others 100-1

Duke/Prince Uther bested Sir James in the finals in 3 bouts, with James winning the 2nd bout, and Uther the 1st and 3rd. THL Inigo placed 3rd, and THL John the Bellringer 4th. By far the best bout of the day was between Duke Uther and Sir Grimbaldus. It went the full three rounds, with long fights t...

Re: Gleann Abhann crown list.

Here's how I see the list: Duke Uther: Slight favorite, but only slight. Uther's biggest asset is that he fights smart, and has a lot of patience to wait for the right shot. His defense is very tight unless he just forgets himself and goes crazy. Earl Loric: Make that "Earl Sir Master Master Loric."...

Re: Gleann Abhann Spring Crown List

So final four were Ashi, Caillin, Loric and ? James the Holy. Loric and Ashi were the finals of the winners' bracket. Loric had beaten Caillin to advance to that bout. Ashi then beat Loric. Caillin defeated James in a match to see who would face Loric in the finals of the 1-loss bracket, and then d...

Until DA shows up, here's an estimation from the Dark Knight (no - not that one):

Count Ashi: 5-2
Sir James: 4-1
Earl Loric: 6-1
Viscount Caillin: 10-1
THL Lorccan: 20-1
someone else: 50-1

Re: Gleann Abhann Spring Crown List

I had been expecting this one to belong to James unless Loric entered, in which case it would be a toss-up. I didn't realise that Ashi was going to be in it, though, which completely changes things. I think Ashi, James, Loric, Caillin, and Lorccan all have a chance, but my money's on Ashi.

Barring intervention of the gods (or Jon reading this and letting it go to his head), Jon the Tall will win this list. 4-3 Jarl Jon the Tall. Fresh off his win of the Tourney of Champions (which had a lot of monsters in it), Jon is set to win his second Crown. 7-1 Sir James the Holy. On a good day h...

To me (and I only watched - did not participate) it appeared that a small shield designed for punching and a stout mace were the best options for one handed weapons. Swords seemed useless in the melees unless they were the short broad falchion types.

I have seen a late period Spanish one in a museum in Germany. It was a buckler less than 1' diameter with a 15"-18" spike coming out from opposite sides.
