Re: 14th Century Gauntlet Knuckle plate find
That gauntlet just screams fake to me. The placement of the lines and knuckles is the first thing I find questionable. I got a hold of the translation and its still unclear how it was found. Thordeman and a few others examined it (a century ago before any scientific analysis was available to speak o...

Bitch'n Brass Tent Finials.... pimp out your pavilion !
Ive got two of these acorn tent pavillian finials up for grabs. Each about 11 inches tall if Im not mistaken...big, in other words. Hollow so a pole can be attached. I believe the hole is around 1.5 or so...possibly less, I can check.

I don't know off hand. How would I figure that out? I can tell you that now, it takes two hands and a good deal of pull strength. When its tight it was not easy to pull. Im very strong/lifter and remember that when it was new you really had to be careful when holding the stock and keep your food fir...

15th/16th century CROSSBOW etched and powerful
Had a little flap over this few years ago- I screwed up, sincere apologies. Hoping to avoid that this time around. Need to sell, so here goes. I have a wonderful Mikel (sp?) crossbow I got at a pennsic probably 15 years ago. He was a Polish immigrant who settled in Canada. Its a hardwood but Im not ...

I understand, however I think its best to focus on North American, largely USA and Canadian. :) I also wanted to note that "slant" or culture has nothing to do with it; nor for that matter does race, sex, language, political preference, free market/socialism etc. Zero bearing. Frankly I just started...

I might have overlooked this...but green. Green or wet wood and strips make for a far easier construction with inherent pliability. We tend to think in terms of bone dry kiln wood and that completely inaccurate for many historical projects.

Re: New pics of museum piece. Analysis? (Fabric covered glob
I recall yes Mac. I have done this before also. I think I probably picked up a detail from Bob Charettes harness around 1993 and then subsequently seen tantalizing details and various images like Camillo's. I have usually made the pin a tight Drive which assists greatly in its avoidance of pulling o...

thoughts on hinge placement?... Or if we are indeed seeing hinges on Camillo's breastplate?
I think I can make out a couple of seemingly parallel lines on his shoulder that suggest a barrel hinge

assuming a hinge exists to secure a backplate or simply to clean the peace with more ease....Does anyone want to speculate on the more common location of the hinge; as to whether it would be more commonly affixed directly to the breastplate proper...or at the end of a short strap as we see on the Mu...

Re: Interpreting 14th/early 15th cuirass neck "edges" -need
Look carefully at the very top of this picture....you can just make out the neck ...it looks suspiciously as though that edge is curled over a little bit...also if you look at Ch 13 and your pictures it also looks like the live edge of that L-shaped role is curled over...The edge has a softness to i...

Interpreting 14th/early 15th cuirass neck "edges" -need pics
I am no longer of the impression that the top edge of several breastplates (eg, churburg segmented and #18) which have a very deep turned out "L" shaped 90° fold at the neck do not exhibit a tiny folded edge at the tip...which is contrary to my earlier conclusions ...to be sure, does anyone have any...

Re: Broad splints, historical or just modern comfort?
Well one of the curious details of history involves those late 14th and early 15th century German greaves that are soooooooooo close to being full greaves....but the underpaid elves snuck into the workshops at night and cut them down vertically into were three locations. Clearly on the same suit the...
