Foxknife closing down
Six years ago, I made a rattan sword that I was proud of and decided to make more of them, both for the joy of it and as a way to fund my SCA activities when every penny I earned was being spent on family living expenses. In the years since, I started a good job that requires that I work 60 hours a ...

I'm told the Midrealm Earl Marshal will be have one with him (and a 15A rattan waster for comparison) at ToC this weekend.

And the one of reasons two of us have recommended the same Facebook group is that Sir Ustad has posted some how-to guides in the files section. Because of Sir Ustad's work, I've never felt the need to write a how-to guide. Our methods only differ in a few details, and I've never met anyone other tha...

Bands on the knees
I an looking at several effigies from around 1340 and they all show a small pointed knee cop with some type of band under it. Can anyone explain what I am looking at (and possibly show me some reproductions)? http://1.1.1.4/bmi/www.themcs.org/churches/Norfolk/Elsing%20-%20St%20Mary%20the%20Virgin/20...

...The most waist you can hope for is that sort of weasel waist look ... "Weasel waist" :) It is the best description of what I've seen in quite a while. I'll remember that term. Do you have any pictures of a coat of plates from that period with that kind of waist? Most of the examples I have seen have been faintly barrel-shaped.

Perhaps you can tell us what time and place you were thinking of, and we can either point to appropriate examples or suggest that you have a different idea. Mac I'm trying to justify a cloth covered brigandine with faulds and nipped waist ala 1375 with a kit that more closely resembles 1340. My ult...

Marshal's Gauge
Does your marshal's gauge have one of these slots? It should. New gauge.jpg I had a gentleman at Gulf Wars who shoved one of my wasters in the grill of his helmet and tried to convince me that the sword was illegal because we could see rattan inside the bars. Our discussion would have been a lot sho...

My default size is a one and one half inch long and one inch wide stadium shape (two half circles on a rectangle). It is a beefier shape than an ellipse to add strength to the rattan.Greyholt wrote:Could you give me the exact dimensions of the central openings on these? Thank you very much!
